Oregon State Football Prepares for Tough 2014 Campaign

The Beavers are coming off back-to-back bowl seasons, capturing last December’s Hawai’i Bowl title over Boise State.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - OSU Head Football Coach Mike Riley Preparations for the 2014 Oregon State football season move into high gear with the first official practice Monday, Aug. 4 at the Tommy Prothro Football Complex.

The team is led by Maxwell and Davey O’Brien Award candidate senior quarterback Sean Mannion.

Oregon`s Brennan Finishes Seventh at World Juniors

There will only be one session of competition, Saturday, which starts at 2:30 p.m.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Christian Brennan Christian Brennan finished seventh among the best junior quarter-milers in the world at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships, Friday, in front of 8,937 track and field faithful at Hayward Field.

Brennan, who advanced to the final with a clutch performance on Thursday, finished the 400 in 54.15.

Former Duck Haley Jacob Signs with Champion`s League Club

Jacob was part of Oregon’s run to the NCAA Championship match in 2012.

(BAKU, Azerbaijan) - Haley Jacob Former Oregon volleyball standout Haley Jacob signed a three-season contract with SuperLeague power Rabita Baku, which won the bronze medal at the 2013-14 CEV Champions League last season, the top competition for European volleyball clubs.

Jacob, 23, is in her second year as a professional, previously playing with TSV Dudingen of the Swiss League, helping the team to a fifth-place finish in the European Challenge Cup qualification, the highest in club history.

Volcanoes Win 4th Straight

The Volcanoes eye a series sweep when they send lefty Nick Gonzalez to the mound, owner of the Northwest League's second-lowest ERA of 2.37.

(KEIZER, Ore. ) - Salem Keizer Volcanoes Salem-Keizer has used seven and eight-run innings to record sizeable wins over Spokane and begin the second half on the right foot. It was only a four-run inning on Friday night, but it still got the job done as the Volcanoes won their fourth straight game over the Indians in front of 3,968 at Volcanoes Stadium.

With the game knotted at one in the second inning, the Volcanoes loaded the bases with nobody out. Brett Kay put Salem-Keizer on the board initially with an RBI single in to center field.

(OAK RIDGE, Tenn. ) - OSU Rowing Two members of the Oregon State women’s rowing team raced at the U.S. Club Nationals at Oak Ridge, Tenn. last weekend.

Former OSU rower Tina Vernazza, who will be an undergraduate coach this season, and rising senior Saasha Bruce each won gold medals racing for the Vesper Boat Club.

Ducks Brennan Makes 400 Final at World Junior Championships

Friday will be the last day with two sessions, the first beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the second starting at 6:00 p.m.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Christian Brennan Oregon freshman Christian Brennan qualified for the women’s 400-meter final at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships, advancing on time with a clutch performance, Thursday.

Brennan was slated in lane eight of the third and final heat of the semifinal round, with the top two in each heat, plus the next two fastest times, advancing.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Geri Ann Glasco The Oregon softball program has signed transfer 1B/RHP Geri Ann Glasco, head coach Mike White announced on Thursday.

Glasco, a native of Watkinsville, Ga., played her freshman and sophomore seasons at Georgia and will have two years of eligibility left with the Ducks, starting immediately.

Ohio State Fires Band Director over `Sexualized` Culture

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - Ohio State University Band Ohio State University fired the director of its celebrated marching band on Thursday amid allegations he knew about and ignored ''serious cultural issues,'' some involving rituals where students were pressured to march in their underwear or participate in sexually themed stunts.

Jonathan Waters had led the band since 2012, and served in lesser capacities for a decade before that. His halftime shows for what's known to fans as ''The Best Damn Band in the Land'' were considered revolutionary and drew millions of viewers on YouTube.

Salem-Keizer Volcanoes Announce All-Stars

The Volcanoes will have a heavy representation in the infield with three All-Star starters.

(KEIZER, Ore. ) - Salem Keizer Volcanoes The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, in conjunction with the Northwest League president's office, have announced six players will participate in the 2014 Northwest League All-Star Game Tuesday, August 5 in Eugene, Oregon.

Three pitchers and three infielders will represent the Volcanoes on the South Division roster as Jose Reyes, E.J. Encinosa, Eury Sanchez, Christian Arroyo, Will Callaway, and Travious "T" Relaford will all make the trip to PK Park.
