Body Found in Detroit Lake Identified as 60-Year Old Idanha Man‏

From all indications it appears the victim suffered from a medical issue and fell into the lake while fishing.

(DETROIT, Ore.) - Death investigation The Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a body in Detroit Lake near the Breitenbush River Friday. Lt. Sheila Lorance says fishermen found the body and immediately called 911.

"When deputies arrived, they were able to remove the body from the lake and it was identified as 60-year old Harold Buckles of Idanha," Lorance said.

According to his family, Mr. Buckles went fishing on June 22nd, 2009, four days earlier, and had not been seen since.

Oregon Confirms First Novel H1N1 Swine Flu Influenza Death

The death took place in Marion County.

(SALEM, Ore.) - A Marion County woman with confirmed novel H1N1 (swine) influenza died on Sunday. “We are saddened by this death, and our hearts go out to the family,” said Dr. Karen Landers, health officer for Marion County. “It’s an unfortunate reminder of the seriousness of flu.”

This is the first death of a person with novel H1N1 influenza in Oregon and the 28th in the nation. Strains of seasonal flu affect an estimated one in 10 Oregonians annually, and account for approximately 400 annual Oregon deaths and 36,000 nationwide.

Police Identify Hubbard Residents in Fatal Crash

The highway intersection is controlled by a stop sign for traffic on Monitor-McKee Road NE. It is not known at this time if one of the vehicles failed to stop.

(HUBBARD, Ore.) - Oregon State Police troopers are continuing the investigation into Friday night's crash that killed two people and injured five others, three critically, at the intersection of Highway 214 and Monitor-McKee Road NE in Marion County.

The names of some of the involved people are being released and additional details may be provided this afternoon.

Salem Drowning Victim Recovered from Santiam River

The improved conditions allowed the dive team to enter the water with reduced risks and hazards to the rescue team.

Salem Home Goes Up in Smoke

A Salem house destroyed Thursday afternoon by fire was unoccupied.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem, Oregon house fire 5-14-09 Fire crews in Marion County were busy Thursday evening battling a fire that broke out in an older Salem home at Center and 45th around 6:00 p.m.

The wooden structure quickly became engulfed in flames, much to the surprise of neighbors like Andrey Ocerov. "You know, the first impression was scary. I was sitting there using the computer and my sister ran into the house saying, 'Andrey, the house is on fire'. You know I was so scared I thought it was our house on fire, so I jumped outside."

Reward Offered for Arrest of Salem Area Arson Suspect

The Oregon Council Against Arson is offering a reward of up $5,000 for information regarding the suspect or suspects in this case.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Fire, Salem, Oregon 12-08 May 3rd through 9th is "National Arson Awareness Week" and the Marion County Sheriff's Office would like to take the opportunity to request the public's help with an unsolved arson case.

Lt. Sheila Lorance says on December 6th 2008, the Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a residential burglary and fire in the 4000 block of 46th Ave NE.

Man Reportedly Tries to Abduct 12-Year Old Salem Girl

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Salem-News.com was advised today, along with other Oregon media outlets, of an attempted abduction that actually happened three days ago, involving a 12-year old girl.

Lt. Sheila Lorance with the Marion County Sheriff's Office, says around 3:10 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to the 4800 block of Cougar Court regarding the report of an attempted abduction.

Law Enforcement for Youth Announces Two Project Grants

A group comprised mostly of off-duty cops announces more help for the community.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Recent grants announced by Law Enforcement for Youth in Salem will be awarded to Sprague High School and Striking Out Meth in Marion County.

Steve Polanski with Law Enforcement for Youth says the grants will help in a number of areas. The group often gets involved in projects that help local kids including the restoration of the Chemawa Indian School athletic field.

(GERVAIS, Ore.) - Photos of St. Louis Pond by Mitch Webb Salem-News.com I recently volunteered at an ODFW Youth Angling event held at St. Louis Ponds in Gervais, Oregon. A search of Tesch Road in Gervais on Internet mappings sites will lead you to an interesting view, especially noticing the shapes of the man made numbered ponds from above.

I was quickly impressed with the grounds and the folks attending the event. It was a real outdoor experience, even though I-5 can be heard near the East end of this St Louis County Park (Marion).
