Salem Man Tries to Elude Police; Slams into Dump Truck

The suspect, along with a long list of new charges, also had a warrant for his arrest out of Polk County.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Police Chase Oregon State Police arrested a Salem man Thursday afternoon following his brief attempt to elude and injury traffic crash on Hyacinth Road NE at Salem Parkway in Salem.

Oregon State Police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings says at approximately 3:25 p.m., an OSP trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop southbound in the area of Portland Road NE and Hyacinth Road NE on a 1997 Mercury Sable for an equipment lighting violation.

Three Years Later, Rescue Crews Reunited with Girl who Nearly Drowned

On social media, the victim's mother reached out to the live saving members of MCFD #1 to say thank you.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Marion County Fire District Marion County Fire District #1 Firefighters and Paramedics were reunited on Thursday with a near drowning victim.

Three years ago MCFD #1 responded to a reported drowning incident on Cordon road, when they arrived they found a toddler that had just been pulled from a swimming pool by her grandmother.

Salem Mourns the Deaths of 3 Teens in Less than a Month

Back on July 7, just three days after his birthday, 14-year-old Sean Kaleopa drowned while swimming at the Three Pools Recreation area.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Mill Creek Salem Oregon Salem family, friends, and the community as a whole, have had to endure the tragic deaths of three teenagers from Salem in less than a month, and two, just days apart.

On Sunday, 16-year-old North Salem High School student Matthew Tufts drowned after jumping into Mill Creek, and on Saturday, 19-year-old Marina Toran of Salem was a passenger in a vehicle that fell down a 100 foot embankment and ended up in the Molalla River.

Tree Fire at Salem School Quickly Extinguished by Firefighters

A neighbor told Salem-News.com that the base of this particular tree is a popular hangout for neighborhood juveniles during the hot summer months to congregate, and smoke cigarettes.

Eligible individuals who are enrolled in PLI wear a small personal transmitter around the wrist or ankle that emits an individualized tracking signal.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Marion County Sheriff The Marion County Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce that it's joining forces with Project Lifesaver International, a non-profit agency that bridges the technological gap for medically "at risk" populations and public safety agencies.

PLI provides deputies, fire/rescue and other first responders with equipment and training to quickly locate and rescue individuals with cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, Autism, and Down syndrome, who are at constant risk to wander.

Salem, Oregon Gas Prices Continue to Drop

The Medford-Ashland area saw the biggest drop in the state, with average gas prices falling 5-cents a gallon.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Oregon Gas Prices The national average for regular unleaded drops below $3.50 per gallon this week for the first time since March 12, and is at its lowest level for early August since 2010.

"For the week, the national average drops three cents to $3.49 a gallon while Oregon’s average dips two cents to $3.91.” AAA Oregon/Idaho Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds said.

Free Sports Physicals Available on Saturday in Salem

Willamette Surgery Center has offered free sports physicals to school athletes for the past 10 years.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - West Salem High School Football Willamette Surgery Center will offer free sports physicals to Salem area middle and high school athletes, this Saturday, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at it's facility located at 1445 State Street in Salem.

“On average, we see anywhere from 70 to 200 student athletes each time we do this,” says Suzanne Martinet-Bolton, RN, who spearheaded the project.

Alcohol May Be to Blame for Serious Crash Near Enchanted Forest

No other people were reported injured in the crash.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Oregon Crash Oregon State Police are continuing their investigation into Monday afternoon's three vehicle traffic crash that resulted in serious injury to one person along Enchanted Way SE near the entrance to the Enchanted Forest theme park in Turner.

The injured driver, 50-year-old Gerald R. Luttrell, from SE Salem, is in critical condition.

Kitzhaber is now running for a historic fourth term as Oregon's governor.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber has become engaged to his longtime companion Cylvia Hayes the governor's office said on Tuesday.

Kitzhaber spokeswoman Melissa Navas said the two have not set a wedding date. Hayes lives with the governor, and has been the state's official first lady since Kitzhaber took office for his third term in 2011.

North Salem High Student Matthew Tufts Tragically Drowns in Mill Creek

Matthew was located approximately 100 feet downstream from where he had gone into the water.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Mill Creek Salem Oregon Over 100 family and friends of North Salem High School student Matthew Tufts held a vigil Monday evening after the teen tragically drowned after jumping into Mill Creek Sunday evening.

As Salem-News.com was first to report the incident as rescue crews frantically searched for the 16-year-old into the early morning hours Monday.
