Irvington Historic District listed in National Register of Historic Places

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Image of Irvington Plat The Irvington Historic District in Portland’s eastside is Oregon’s latest entry in the National Register of Historic Places.

Opened for development in 1891, the original Irvington Plat and surrounding area is important as an early example of the influence of streetcar development and restrictive covenants in Portland’s residential neighborhoods. These influences had long-lasting impacts on the architectural character of Irvington through 1948 when most lots had been developed and the streetcar lines were replaced with gasoline buses.

PCC`s Senior Studies Institute: Having Fun and Turning 20

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - members of Portland Community College Senior Studies Institute It's laughter, lively discussions and lots of learning. What is it? It's the Senior Studies Institute at Portland Community College and its turning 20 years old this year.

At the Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation District Building and five other locations around Portland, the institute is giving retirees a path to lifelong learning. On a day in early September, about two-dozen senior citizens gathered in one of the old Safeco Insurance Building's classrooms on Kruse Way to chat about current events. In these classes, there's food, social networking, exchange of ideas and plenty of learning. Through offerings like this one, SSI gives attendees a social network and a way to continue their education.

Cascade Collegiate Conference VB - Concordia 3, NU 1

(KIRKLAND, Wash) - Cascade Collegiate Conference Concordia University defeated Northwest University, 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 25-21, 25-22) in four closely contested sets tonight in Cascade Conference play in the NU Pavilion.

Concordia jumped out to an early 10-5 lead in the first set capped off by Erika Doremus' kill. The Eagles would battle back to pull to within two, 12-10 and then CU would go on a 7-0 run to build their lead to 17-10. Northwest would hang with the Cavaliers to finally make it a two point set, 22-20, but an Eagle attack error and a CU kill by Clair Thiel would end the set at 25-22.

Knights Score Late to Edge Corban 2-1

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Sports Alija Sacirovic scored the game winning goal with less than three minutes remaining to give Warner Pacific a 2-1 victory over Corban at David Douglas High School today.

The host Knights opened the scoring on a goal from Julian Esquivel in the 27th minute, his first of the season. Several more good chances from WP were turned away by diving stops from Corban goalkeeper James Myrvold.

Southern Oregon Over Warner Pacific, 2-0 Soccer

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Sports Southern Oregon spoiled Warner Pacific’s senior day by handing the Knights a 2-0 loss today at David Douglas High School.

Scoring chances were few and far between for both teams, but Southern Oregon made the most of the limited opportunities. SOU’s Ashton Griffen volleyed a 15 yard shot past Knight goalkeeper Nikita Rivera in the 23rd minute to give the Raiders an early lead. SOU would tack on a second goal in the 41st minute off the head of Kennedy Roteman, who made a long run down the left side and received a cross from Julie Zamzow.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore) - Coho Salmon For the first time in more than 50 years, wild coho are moving into the upper reaches of Cedar Creek near Sandy.

After years of planning and preparation, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is in the process of releasing more than 100 wild coho into the stream in the Sandy River Basin.

Special Olympics Oregon Fall Regional Games Held Statewide

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - soor logo Several communities throughout Oregon will once again host Special Olympics Oregon Fall Regional Games on consecutive weekends in Late October and November. More than 2,000 athletes will compete in one of 10 competitions in seven cities. Hundreds of coaches, volunteers and families will join in to support competitors.

The Fall Regional Games, presented by Les Schwab Tire Centers, officially begins Sunday, October 31 with a bowling competition at Lakeshore Lanes in Albany. Regional competitions continue the following weekend with Corvallis hosting aquatics on Saturday, November 6 and soccer and volleyball on Sunday, November 7. Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham will also host aquatics on November 7. November 13 & 14 will conclude the fall season with bowling competitions in Beaverton, Bend, Hermiston, Medford and Portland.

Portland Police Make Arrest in Benson HS Shooting

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Shooting Investigation On Sunday Portland Police officers arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the last week's shooting at Benson High School.

The investigation into the shooting began on Thursday when Portland Police officers responded to the report of a shooting at Benson High School, located at 546 Northeast 12th Avenue. As officers responded, school security immediately placed the school on lock-down. A volleyball game between Benson and Jefferson was occurring in the gym and Portland Night High School was holding classes for dozens of students.
