George Fox University in Oregon Closes for Day so 1,800 Students, Staff Can Serve Communities

(Newberg, OR) - George Fox University Logo For a 12th straight year, George Fox University will close its doors for one day to allow students and employees to assist nonprofits, public agencies, churches, retirement homes and individual citizens during a day of service on Wednesday, Sept. 8.

About 1,550 students and 300 employees are expected to participate in the 12th annual Serve Day. Teams will do a variety of projects – including construction, painting, weeding and cleaning – for 75 sites in Washington, Multnomah, Clackamas and Yamhill counties. Stops will include the Oregon Zoo and the Portland Rescue Mission in Portland; the YMCA and Cat Adoption Team in Sherwood; the MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn; Medical Teams International in Tigard; and the McMinnville Area Habitat for Humanity.

Four Adults Arrested for Raping and Sexually Abusing Children

Police say teen girls were given pot and alcohol, tied up, raped, and even engaged in sex with a dog and groups of men located through Craigslist ads; one victim was only four.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Suspects Daily, Thompson, Garcia, Moreno Police arrested several adults in what appears to be a bizarre and tragic series of sex crimes involving teenage girls and one four-year old child.

Police say the situation came to their attention over the weekend. A 15-year old girl told officers she had engaged in sex with 44-year old Darrin Vaughn Daily after he gave her marijuana and alcohol.

Newberg Man Drowns in Willamette River

Witnesses say the man got into trouble about 40 feet from shore.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Oscar Cortes-Perez A Newberg man drowned in the Willamette River near Rogers Landing Boat Launch, Newberg, on Monday afternoon.

Yamhill County Sheriff Jack Crabtree identified the man as 36-year old Oscar Cortes-Perez, who had lived in Newberg for about 10 years.

He most recently lived with friends at various locations around the city. Most of his family lives in Mexico.

Oregon Man Arrested for Assaulting Infant

The suspect, Kevin Jarnagin, is being held on $305,000 bail.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - 23-year old Kevin James Jarnagin A Newberg man has been arrested for assault and mistreatment following the investigation into an incident critically injuring a seven-month old infant.

23-year old Kevin James Jarnagin called the Newberg-Dundee 9-1-1 Center shortly after 930 a.m. Tuesday, July 7th 2009, reporting that an infant girl was not breathing and unresponsive.

Crash Closes Oregon 219 Near Newberg

Officials suggest motorists who are passing through the area use alternate routes, such as Oregon 47, the Tualatin Valley/Nehalem Highway, or Oregon 99W, Pacific Highway West.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Crash investigation Police report that a vehicle crash has traffic stopped on Oregon 219, the Hillsboro/Silverton Highway, at mile post 219. The serious injury crash has closed Oregon 219 just north of the city of Newberg.

ODOT states at this point that the highway will remain closed while emergency service personnel respond and for any subsequent police investigation.

Fugitive in Oregon Teen Sex Abuse Case Arrested in Indiana

America's Most Wanted Reports that the 43-year-old man was wanted for some of the "most heinous sex crimes on record in the jurisdiction.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - 43-year old Michael Dwayne Lemasters Investigators in Yamhill County say a former Newberg resident sought for over 45 counts relating to the sexual abuse of young women has been arrested in Indiana.

43-year old Michael Dwayne Lemasters reportedly fled the state in October 2008, shortly before warrants for his arrest were issued. LeMasters was sought in Yamhill, Washington and Clackamas county, with security set at $2,523,000.
