Salem-Keizer, Oregon Public School Enrollment Climbs in 2005-06 School Year

The largest areas of growth came in the Portland suburbs, in Salem, and in Bend.

(Salem) - State Schools Superintendant Susan Castillo - Photo By: Tim King State Schools Superintendent Susan Castillo announced Monday that the total number of Oregon elementary and secondary students enrolled in public schools has increased sharply since last year.

According to Oct. 1st, 2005 counts reported by school districts, Oregon has 559,228 students in public schools – an increase of 6,889 since last year (1.2%). State population forecasts had predicted an increase of less than 1%.

Op-Ed: State Remains Sovereign: Brooks-Belching Pollutes Oregon Air

(Salem) - Recent statements --private, internal and public-- by the Marion County Commissioners make clear their intention to UNCAP the already-belching Brooks incinerator:
When infectious hospital wastes from other states are offered the Brooks incinerator remains ready-and-willing.

Their decision to "table" immediate action after the flawed Sears analysis --summarizing also-flawed group process of SWMAC-- was a foregone conclusion.

DA Releases More Information in Death of Man Involved in Police Pursuit

Incident began with an early morning traffic stop in Wilsonville, and ended in an apparent self-inflicted fatal gunshot near the Silverton city line.

(Salem) - Anthony Solich Photo Courtesy: Marion County DA Investigators from the Oregon State Police, the Marion County Sheriff's Office and the Keizer Police Department continue to investigate the death of a man who they say shot himself on Highway 214 west of Silverton following a lengthy police chase early Tuesday morning. The deceased man has been identified as 35-year old Anthony James Solich of Eugene.

(Salem) - This graffitti at Madronna and Commercial in South Salem, Good News was announced Tuesday in the fight against gang graffiti in Marion County.
Through a partnership with Marion County Businesses and agencies, the Marion County Sheriff`s Office has revamped its gang graffiti abatement program to more effectively address the ongoing gang graffiti problem in Marion County.
