Kidnapping and Robbery Victim Uninjured after 3 1/2 Hour Ordeal

The suspect vehicle in the case is an older White Ford Explorer with unknown Oregon tree design license plate

(Keizer) - Police say a Salem man is OK after being kidnapped and robbed in Keizer Monday evening in the area of 3800 block of River Road North. The experience started between 5:00 and 5:15 PM, lasted three and a half hours, and ended with a gunshot being fired into the victim`s car while he was inside.

Keizer Police Captain Jeff Kuhns says officers first learned of the kidnapping and robbery incident at 8:45 PM, approximately 3 ½ hours after it began.

Salem-Keizer Facilities Planning Committee Application Deadline Extended

(Salem) - The Salem-Keizer School District has extended the deadline for applications for the newly formed facilities planning committee. The School Board approved the formation of the new committee to look into long-term facility needs in Salem-Keizer.

The committee will look into the growth of the student population within the district and recommend strategies.

Keizer Firefighters Climb Stairs for Charity

(Keizer) - Keizer Fire Truck A team of seven Firefighters from the Keizer Fire District traveled to Seattle, Washington on Sunday, March 5th, to participate in the 15th Annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb, a fund raising event for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The stair climb takes place each year at the Columbia Center Building (formerly the Bank of America Tower) in Seattle, Washington. At 788 feet in height, it is the tallest building in Seattle and the second tallest building west of the Mississippi river.

Debris From High Water Strands Wheatland Ferry

(Keizer AP) - Wheatland Ferry Photo By: Tim King Record winter rains have caused a debris pile-up in the Willamette River that has stranded the Wheatland Ferry, Yamhill County's shortcut to Marion County.

The little ferry normally carries about 600 vehicles a day but record rains in December and Januuary washed enough gravel and debris downstream to ground it.

Nobody was hurt in a Keizer house fire at 1137 Ring St. NE Wednesday that broke out around 9:00 PM. The family`s pets were also recovered safely.

Salem-Keizer, Oregon Public School Enrollment Climbs in 2005-06 School Year

The largest areas of growth came in the Portland suburbs, in Salem, and in Bend.

(Salem) - State Schools Superintendant Susan Castillo - Photo By: Tim King State Schools Superintendent Susan Castillo announced Monday that the total number of Oregon elementary and secondary students enrolled in public schools has increased sharply since last year.

According to Oct. 1st, 2005 counts reported by school districts, Oregon has 559,228 students in public schools – an increase of 6,889 since last year (1.2%). State population forecasts had predicted an increase of less than 1%.
