Half Pound of Meth Seized by Keizer Police

(KEIZER) - Jose Manuel Martinez and Oscar Omar Guichard Martinez Photo: Keizer Police Police officers in Keizer say they seized over half a pound of crystal meth Monday night during the arrest of two men who had been under investigation for suspected drug activity.

Sgt. Jeff Isham of the Department`s Community Response Unit took the men into custody on a number of related charges.

For officers like Jeff Isham, the half-pound haul was bigger than usual, `The street value of the methamphetamine is approximately $5,500.`

Salem-Keizer Elementary Schools Holding Kindergarten Nighttime Registration

(SALEM) - Kindergarten students from Labish Elementary All Salem-Keizer Elementary Schools are holding a special evening registration on Thursday from 5 to 8 PM, to allow kindergarten-age children to register for the 2006-07 school year.

In order to register a child for kindergarten, the child must be five years old on or before September 1.

Parents will need to provide legal proof of their child`s age, (a birth certificate is preferred), and an updated record of their child`s immunizations.

Pets Rescued as Fire Damages Keizer Home

Fire investigators are still trying to learn who the current residents of the home were.

(KEIZER) - fire truck Firefighters rescued several animals Monday morning when a house fire broke out at 427 Dearborn Ave. N in Keizer. Before it was over, crews responding to the call had to fight the fire and rescue several dogs and hamsters from the burning residence.

Keizer Fire Spokesman Jim Trett says the fire was reported to 9-1-1 by a passerby who saw smoke coming from the windows of the single-family residence, `Keizer Fire received the call at 9:51 AM and the first unit arrived on the scene at 9:53 AM. Arriving units found a fire burning in the bathroom of the residence.`

Former Salem-Keizer Special Education Teacher Expected to Plead Guilty to Sexual Abuse

(SALEM) - A former Crossler Middle School special education teacher accused of sexual abuse is expected to plead guilty Monday to sexually abusing one of his male students.

The Marion County D-A`s office says 42-year-old Alan Coorts will plead guilty to first-degree sex abuse, five counts of first-degree custodial interference, and one count of third-degree sex abuse.

Problems Continue for Keizer Kidnap/Robbery Victim

(KEIZER) - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Track Keizer Police say a kidnapping and robbery victim was victimized again early the next morning, with the disappearance of his 2002 Ford Explorere Sport Track.

At about 3:00 AM Wednesday morning, Aguilar contacted the Keizer Police Department to report that another vehicle belonging to him was stolen from the parking lot of his residence sometime between 8:00 PM on March 7th and 3:00 AM in the morning.

(Salem) - Gymnasium floor School Gymnasium floors throughout Salem/Keizer middle schools that were built in the 1970`s contain levels of mercury that result from early building technologies no longer used.

A report from the Department of Human Services concluded that no apparent health hazard exists to students, faculty or community groups who use the gymnasiums in the school district.
