Firefighters arrived at the scene within approximately three minutes to find single-family home heavily charged with smoke and fire.

Portland-Area Firefighters Train with Burning Jet Fuel

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Firefighters training on jet fuel fires Portland Fire and Rescue, Port of Portland and Hillsboro firefighters are taking part in a joint training this week to help prepare them for fighting fuel fires in case of an aircraft related accident at the Port of Portland airport.

"This type of training is conducted to teach firefighters how to safely extinguish fuel fires," said Craig Callicotte, the Fire Chief of Port of Portland. "The training also teaches them how to deal with the large amounts of fuel on the ground that will occur during an aircraft crash."

Large Tree Falls in Power Lines, Blocks Access for 50 Lake Oswego Residents

(LAKE OSWEGO, Ore.) - Tree across Lakefront Rd Lake Oswego Oregon This morning at 8:11 am a large tree fell across Lakefront Rd. at McVey Avenue in Lake Oswego. The tree took down power lines and other utility lines as it fell.

Lake Oswego Firefighters secured the scene and denied access to the area due to the power lines tangled in the fallen tree.

Cooling Temperatures Prompt Safe Heating Advice from the State Fire Marshal

(SALEM, Ore.) - Fire Safety House As overnight temperatures in many parts of the state dip into the 30s and lower, State Fire Marshal Randy Simpson is urging Oregonians to have fireplaces, woodstoves, and other heating appliances inspected for safety.

"With the onset of cooler weather, we want to remind homeowners to have the chimneys and flues on their fireplaces and woodstoves cleaned and inspected before using them," says Simpson. There have been at least five home fires in the past week related to fireplaces and woodstoves, with one of these fires resulting in the death of a 6-year-old child.

Silverton Fire Displaces Family of Four

The fire is not suspicious in nature

(SILVERTON, Ore.) - Fire in Silverton Oregon The Silverton Fire District responded at approximately 11:00 pm Sunday night to a residential structure fire in the 1200 block of Maple St. in Silverton. When the first unit arrived on scene, moderate smoke could be seen coming from the structure.

The house was occupied by four residents, two adults and two children, when the blaze started in the wall next to the chimney for the wood stove.

Albany Traffic Accident Requires Fire Department to Rescue Occupant from a Pickup Truck in Periwinkle Creek

(ALBANY, Ore.) - truck in Periwinkle Creek The Albany Fire Department responded to the 1500 block of Pacific Blvd. SE at 10:10 a.m. today to a reported motor vehicle accident with a vehicle in Periwinkle Creek. Firefighters arrived at scene within approximately two minutes to find that a pickup truck with a single occupant had left the roadway and come to rest upright about 15 to 20 feet down in the creek bed in approximately one foot of water.

Firefighters immediately stabilized the vehicle, removed the top of the cab, and worked with specialized tools for about 14 to 16 minutes to extricate the occupant. One person was evaluated at the scene and transported to the hospital. No other injuries resulted from this incident.

Gas Main Break in Albany Results in Evacuation

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Scene from gas leak The Albany Fire Department responded to 3850 Oakmont Loop NE at approximately 10:32 a.m. today to a reported natural gas line break in a residential neighborhood.

Firefighters arrived at the scene within approximately four minutes to find a broken two-inch gas main damaged by a private contractor while excavating a trench for installation of utilities for a house to be constructed at that location. There was no fire as a result of this incident and crews from NW Natural Gas were at the scene on our arrival.
