Doran Productions and the Mt. Angel Performing Arts Center will host an evening of family friendly, outstandingly entertaining original roots bluegrass with the award-winning group Kathy Boyd & Phoenix Rising.
Celebrating their 5th year together, 2010 has been a banner season for the band, with the release of their 3rd CD - a gospel recording called "Walk Humbly", 47 performances, a partnership with Brian Farrish Radio Promotions, and the recent win of the $10,000 prize in the 2010 International City Love Music Contest with a song about band leader Kathy Boyd's home town of Clatskanie, Oregon

The Community Health Education Center (CHEC) is offering a seven-week Brain Agility program beginning on Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 9 to 10 a.m. and continuing Tuesdays through Dec. 14. The class is available at both Salem Hospital and West Valley Hospital.
The Brain Agility program combines weekly presentations on brain health with a unique program of mental exercises designed by a psychologist to enhance your brain's ability to remember, stay focused, be aware and be alert.

Willamette University and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry have partnered to bring OMSI's popular Science Pub to Salem. The monthly series will feature a presentation and discussion with a Willamette faculty member or a visiting professor.
The purpose of Science Pub is to learn about cutting-edge topics from leading researchers and scientists. Instead of a remote speaker behind a distant podium, experience an informal atmosphere where you can interact with experts and where there is no such thing as a silly question.

Residents Encouraged to Attend Minto Bridge Public Hearing

The Minto Island Pedestrian Bridge is being designed to connect Riverfront Park to Minto Island. The purpose of the public hearing is to discuss alternatives to the low tier bridge design option that City Council approved earlier this year.

The Salem Police Department Crime Prevention Unit will host its 5th Annual Halloween Dress Rehearsal on Saturday, October 23, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the atrium of the Police Department at 555 Liberty St. SE, first floor.
The focus of the event is to have children's costumes ready to wear for a safe evening of Halloween trick-or-treating.
Children and their parents are invited to dress up in their Halloween costume and have it evaluated for safety based on common hazards, such as low visibility (specifically the reflectivity of the costume, as well as the visual limitations due to masks or wigs) and costume fit (length as a tripping hazard).

Creatures Creep Back to the Oregon Coast Aquarium

(NEWPORT, Ore.) -
After a one-year hiatus, the Oregon Coast Aquarium’s annual Halloween event, “Creatures of the Night,” will creep back into the Aquarium with a slightly different format. There will be a gentler event during the day for younger goblins during “Creatures of the Day,” with face painting, games and candy from 10 am – 4 pm. The Aquarium will then close its doors from 4 to 6:30 pm and quietly mutate into an ominous landscape with haunted caves and foggy courtyards summoning the more fearless ghouls for the annual soiree of the sinister, “Creatures of the Night” from 6:30 to 8:30 pm Saturday, October 30.
