SWAT Team Takes Escaped Inmate Into Custody Unconscious

Suspect apparently held a 70-year old hostage.

(WOODBURN, Ore.) - Salem-News.com The Marion County SWAT team entered a Woodburn home just after 5:30 PM today after an hours-long standoff and found an escaped prison inmate named Arturo Salinas unconscious. Spokesman for the Sheriff's Office Kevin Rau says Salinas is being transported to Salem Hospital at this time. He had no apparent injuries.

It started around noon today when deputies were contacted by Hubbard PD and informed that Arturo Salinas, the inmate reported to have escaped from the Santiam Correctional Institution over the weekend, was holed up inside.

SWAT Team May Have Escaped Oregon Inmate Surrounded

Arturo Ramirez walked away from the Santiam Correctional Facility this week.

(WOODBURN, Ore.) - Arturo Ramirez Deputies in Marion County have a house surrounded in Woodburn and they believe an escaped inmate from the Oregon prison system is inside.

Marion County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Kevin Rau says this could bring a manhunt to a close.

"The Marion County Interagency SWAT team is on scene at a home in the 11800 block of Carl Rd NE north of Woodburn where it is believed that Arturo Salinas, the inmate reported to have escaped from the Santiam Correctional Institution over the weekend,is holed up."

Man Leads Police on Chase Through Woodburn

Police said a small amount of drugs and a methamphetamine pipe was also discovered in the vehicle.

(WOODBURN, Ore. ) - hand cuffs Woodburn police say a man led authorities on a chase through Woodburn early Thursday.

Police say the chase started when an officer noticed a car without headlights and tried to pull the driver over.

The driver, 22-year-old Pablo Garcia, sped through Woodburn with the officer in pursuit and then lost control and crashed at the intersection of Newberg Highway and Butteville Road.

EEOC Settles Age Discrimination Suit Against Woodburn, Oregon Fertilizer Company Owner

55-Year-Old Secretary Harassed, Mistreated Because of Age, Agency Charged.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - gavel Woodburn- based Scott and Patty Corporation, formerly known as Woodburn Fertilizer, Inc., will pay $85,000 to settle an age discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.

The EEOC had charged in its lawsuit (Case No. CV 06-1109-MWM in U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon), filed in July this year, that Woodburn Fertilizer subjected a longtime 55-year-old accounting secretary to harassment and unequal treatment because of her age in violation of the Age
Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). Scott and Patty Corporation denies liability.

Woodburn Apartment Damaged by Fire

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

(WOODBURN) - Woodburn Fire truck Woodburn and Hubbard Fire Districts responded on a report of an apartment fire at 1469 Park Ave, Apt #10 on Saturday afternoon.

Upon arrival crews found a burning mattress had been removed from the apartment.

Firefighters extinguished what active fire was still in the room and prevented further damage to the structure and contents.

Woodburn Fire Calls in 2006 Not Alarming

$300,000 of the 2006 loss was a result of a house fire on January 1st.

(WOODBURN) - Woodburn Fire Department Woodburn Fire District responded to 1,985 calls in 2006 - an increase of 250 calls over 2005.

Despite the increase, Woodburn Fire District hasn't come close to the 2,593 calls ran in 1996.

The fire district contributes this to a great working relationship with Woodburn Ambulance, a private ambulance provider.

Salem, Keizer, Woodburn Businesses Agree to Liquor Violation Settlements

If the business fail to pay the fines, each face stiff liquor license suspensions.

(SALEM) - Salem, Keizer, Woodburn and Adair Village businesses have agreed to pay fines to the Oregon Oregon Liquor Control Commission for liquor law violations.

Under a stipulated settlement with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, the licensee for Rack N’ Cue 1970 Lancaster Dr. NE #125, agreed to pay a $3,465 civil penalty by Jan. 26th or begin serving a 21-day license suspension Jan. 31st for a liquor law violation.

The OLCC says the licensee failed to maintain liquor liability insurance or a minimum $300,000 corporate surety bond, in accordance with OAR 845-005-0400(1).

Woodburn Man Killed Along I-5 Friday Night

Alcohol is being investigated as a possible contributing factor on the victim's part.

(AURORA) - fatal crash investigation A Woodburn-area man died Friday evening after he and his car were struck by another vehicle northbound on Interstate 5 about one mile south of the Donald/Aurora interchange.

Initial investigation indicates the victim was standing next to the driver's door of his stopped car in the inside northbound lane at the time of the crash.

For an unknown reason the Nissan did not have any lights on as it was stopped in the inside northbound lane.

Police Investigating Baby’s Death

(WOODBURN) - death investigation Woodburn police are investigating the death of a newborn baby.

Police said the baby’s body was found wrapped in a blanket in the back yard of the mother’s home at 873 Meadowvale Lane in Woodburn on Sunday.

Police told FOX-12 that the investigation began when the mother showed up at a Silverton hospital and said she had a miscarriage.
