Multnomah Sheriff Asks Residents to Stay Off Roads

If you are stuck at the side of the road and decide to keep your car running and lights on, make sure your tail pipe is clear of snow so as to vent engine exhaust to the outside.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Snowy Oregon freeway Extremely hazardous roads are reported in Multnomah County at this time. The Multnomah Sheriff's Office asks everyone not engaged in essential services to stay off the roads, especially I-84 east of I-5, which was officially closed by ODOT from Troutdale to Hood River.

Clark County Winter Weather Update: Hazardous Road Conditions

Vancouver crews unrelenting in battle with constant snow; Residents urged to stay off snow-packed, icy streets‏.

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) - Snow As steady snowfall continues to cloak the City of Vancouver, unrelenting Public Works crews maintain their push to keep open critical streets connecting fire, police and hospitals.

All streets within the city were reported open as of 5:00 PM, but snow-packed and extremely slick in many areas as temperatures dropped. Side streets were socked with snow, 3 to 4 inches deep.

Vancouver Public Works urges residents to stay off the roads and avoid unnecessary travel if at all possible. For those who must drive, chains or traction tires are recommended. Please remain a safe distance from snow plows and other equipment, giving them ample room to safely do their job.

Among other concerns, residents are advised to allow extra time for travel and make sure somebody knows their route and expected time of arrival. Roads are slick and temperatures are low; it is not a good time to take short cuts.

City and State Crews Gear Up for Next Storm System‏

Portland and the state of Oregon are gearing up for increasing cold and ice.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland, Oregon The National Weather Service is predicting another severe winter weather event for the Portland metropolitan region this weekend. City and State crews are prepared to respond.

Road conditions are generally good throughout the city of Portland – clear pavement, some patches of snow, some patches of ice – but most streets are clear and drivable. Crews are sanding, plowing, and applying de-icer chemical on problem spots as needed. Efforts today are focused in the hills and in known hazard areas all around the city. Crews are patrolling the city and monitoring locations for temperature changes, precipitation, and road conditions.

Pacific Power Prepares Major for Weekend Storm

Pacific Power prepares for likely wind, ice event. Customers also should take precautions as latest storm could cause widespread outages.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Oregon State Trooper last week near Portland where a vehicle had left the roadway due to snow and ice With weather forecasters predicting a major weekend storm combining snow, wind and freezing rain that could cause weather-related power outages in western Oregon, Pacific Power is pre-positioning extra work crews to help speed up power restoration if it becomes necessary.

"With our ongoing commitment to safety and our crews' hard work, we've been very fortunate so far in dealing with winter storms and making quick repairs whenever necessary," said Pacific Power President Pat Reiten.
