Snow and Cold Aimed at the Northwest

The cold and snow may be enough to jump-start the ski season in the Cascades and also in the Canada Rockies.

The storm track will shift farther south in the Pacific this weekend. As it does, colder air will drain southward from British Columbia into Washington, Oregon and the northern part of Great Basin and Rockies.

Tropical Storm Paul Continues Weakening

Tropical Storm Paul is expected to slowly move off to the northwest, parallel to the Baja Peninsula's west coast.

(STATE COLLEGE,, PA Accuweathter.com) - Tropical Storm Paul Tropical Storm Paul will graze Baja California in Mexico today, helping it to weaken further in the coming hours.

As the center of the storm meanders along the coast, the storm will be thrust into conditions that will rip the storm apart. High up in the atmosphere, strong upper-level winds will create a disconnect between the top and bottom of the storm, weakening it.

Rafael is currently a Category 1 hurricane and should maintain hurricane status as it passes Bermuda.

July 2012 Marks Hottest Month on Record

The hottest locations in July were mostly stretched across the Midwest and central Plains, areas largely plagued by intense drought.

(STATE COLLEGE, PA Accuweather.com) - Weather map AccuWeather.com reports July 2012 marked the hottest month on record ever for the lower 48 states, according to a report released by NOAA Wednesday.

With an average temperature of 77.6 degrees F in the contiguous U.S., the month of July surpassed the 20th century average by 3.3 degrees F.
