Washington: Tacoma Hempfest 2010 Draws Awareness

It is inspiring to see that activism is alive and growing in Washington State.

(TACOMA, Wash. HEMP NEWS) - Free Marc Emery On Saturday, June 26, organizers from across the state celebrated the 1st Annual Tacoma Hempfest at Wright Park.

The weather was perfect for a day out as thousands converged and brought attention to the cannabis plant, as well as highlighting the injustice done to Canadian citizen Marc Emery who many feel is wrongly incarcerated in the United States for selling seeds.

Surfrider Foundation`s 9th Annual Clean Water Classic

The 2010 Classic will include over 100 contestants from Washington, Oregon and British Columbia, covering all ages and levels with divisions for pro/am, men, masters, women, juniors and kids.

(WESTPORT, Wash.) - Surfing at Westport Over the weekend of May 14-16, Westport, WA will welcome back the Surfrider Foundation for this year’s 9th annual Clean Water Classic—the longest running surf contest in the Pacific Northwest.

The event is a benefit for the Pacific Northwest chapters of the Surfrider Foundation and was awarded the national Chapter Event of the Year in 2008.

Sturgeon Season Closes Above The Dalles Dam

36 fish per week is the average harvested in the last 3 weeks.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore) - Oregon sturgeon Fishery managers from Oregon Washington closed the Columbia River to retention of sturgeon in The Dalles Reservoir between The Dalles and John Day dams, effective May 6.

The action was taken during a joint hearing of the two states based on surveys indicating that anglers are on track to achieve their harvest guideline of 300 sturgeon by that date.

(CALGARY, Alberta) - Character Farva in the movie Clark County Sheriff's Deputy Edward Bylsma went into a Burger King in Vancouver, WA early one morning in March 2009. He ordered a hamburger and, after getting it, had an uneasy feeling about a couple of the workers.

He checked the burger and found a gob of spit. A DNA check revealed that it came from one of the workers.

UPDATE: AMBER Alert canceled, child safely located in Quincy Wash. Suspect in custody.

(QUINCY, Wash.) - maroon 2006 Cadillac CTSm An Amber Alert has been issued in the state of Washington for a small boy whose father, the suspect, is operating a maroon 2006 Cadillac.

Police say he, along with three to four other Hispanic males considered to be armed and dangerous, took the child from his residence in Quincy, Washington, possibly en route Mexico.

PFC McLyman`s Family and Friends Recall a Bright Woman

(SALEM, Ore.) - Army Pfc. Erin L. McLyman Army Pfc. Erin L. McLyman of Federal Way, Washington, died March 13 in Balad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked her base with mortar fire.

She was assigned to the 296th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lews-McChord, Washington.

Washington Man Arrested for `Communication With a Minor for Immoral Purposes`

Thought Crimes in Washington State?

(BATTLEGROUND, Wash) - Handcuffs Police in Washington sent out a news release today stating that a man was arrested for "Communication with a minor for immoral purposes". We have not been able to gain any more details; Salem-News.com contacted Lt. Roy Butler with Battleground Police, who said due to the investigation, he was unable to provide further background on the case.

He did not confirm whether or not this was Internet related, or something else.
