Medical Teams International Mobilizes Medical Volunteers to Battle Spreading Cholera

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Cholera in Haiti Hurricane Tomas dumped several inches of rain on Haiti. "Haiti is under water," reported Ted Steinhauer, Medical Teams International country director.

The resulting flooding is spreading cholera in areas in northwest Haiti once thought to be under control. Officials reported 550 new cases of cholera.

Whitworth Moves Closer to NWC Volleyball Championship, Defeats Willamette 3-0

(SALEM, Oregon) - Willamette Bearcats The Whitworth University volleyball team defeated Willamette University, 3-0, on Friday, Nov. 5. The Pirates moved to 16-6 overall and 13-2 in the Northwest Conference. Whitworth clinched at least a tie for the NWC title and will clinch an outright championship with a win at Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, Nov. 6.

Whitworth is currently one match in front of the University of Puget Sound (12-3) and Pacific Lutheran University (12-3) in the NWC standings. The regular season ends on Saturday.

Oregon Air National Guard to Take Part in Veterans Day Flyovers Around the State

(SALEM, Oregon) - 173d Fighter Wing F-15 The Oregon Air National Guard will conduct Veterans Day flyovers for various ceremonies at locations throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.

F-15 Eagle fighter jets from the 142nd Fighter Wing in Portland and the 173rd Fighter Wing at Kingsley Field are scheduled to conduct flyovers at the following locations and approximate times:

All passes will be approximately 1,000 feet above ground level and 350 knots airspeed. Flights could be cancelled or times changed due to inclement weather or operational contingencies.

Skelly is Named First Team ESPN Acacemic All-District

Skelly Leads Bearcats with 10 Goals in 2010

(SALEM, Ore.) - Stephanie Skelly (Jr., MF, Poulsbo, WA/North Kitsap HS) Willamette University women's soccer player Stephanie Skelly (Jr., MF, Poulsbo, WA/North Kitsap HS) has been named First Team ESPN College Division Academic All-District VIII in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Skelly and other First Team Academic All-District selections are now eligible to be chosen for the ESPN College Division Academic All-America Team, which will be announced later this month.

Skelly leads the Bearcats far this season with 10 goals, ranking her fourth in the Northwest Conference. She is third in the NWC in goals per game (0.56) and is third in the conference in overall scoring with 20 points (two for each goal).

(WALLA WALLA, Wash.) - Willamette Bearcats Soccer Whitman College defeated visiting Willamette University, 2-0, in Northwest Conference men's soccer action on Sunday, Oct. 31. The Missionaries scored their first goal with just over four minutes remaining in the first half and added a second goal with 1:16 left in the game.

Cascade Collegiate Conference VB - Concordia 3, NU 1

(KIRKLAND, Wash) - Cascade Collegiate Conference Concordia University defeated Northwest University, 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 25-21, 25-22) in four closely contested sets tonight in Cascade Conference play in the NU Pavilion.

Concordia jumped out to an early 10-5 lead in the first set capped off by Erika Doremus' kill. The Eagles would battle back to pull to within two, 12-10 and then CU would go on a 7-0 run to build their lead to 17-10. Northwest would hang with the Cavaliers to finally make it a two point set, 22-20, but an Eagle attack error and a CU kill by Clair Thiel would end the set at 25-22.

(SPOKANE, Wash.) - Willamette Bearcats Willamette University gained 407 total yards, including 310 yards on the ground, as the Bearcats moved past Whitworth University, 28-12, in wet conditions at the Pine Bowl in Spokane, Wash., on Saturday, Oct. 30. Terrell Malley (So., TB, Portland, OR/Roosevelt HS) led the Willamette rushing attack with 17 carries for 103 yards and one touchdown.

Pirates Plunder Bearcat Women`s Soccer, 4-1

(SPOKANE, Wash.) - Willamette Bearcats The Whitworth University Pirates scored three goals in the first half and added one more in the second half to defeat the Willamette University women's soccer team, 4-1, on Saturday, Oct. 30. Whitworth improved to 12-5-1 overall and 10-3-1 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette is now 6-9-2 overall and 5-6-2 in the NWC.

Whitworth limited Willamette to just three shots during the game, including one shot on goal. The Pirates benefited from a strong offensive attack and had 12 shots and nine shots on goal.
