Christian Arroyo's first inning home run provided a brief spark as the Volcanoes took the early lead.

(VANCOUVER, B.C.) - Salem Keizer Volcanoes Logo Salem-Keizer pitching struggled against Vancouver, who took full advantage of its opportunities in a 10-2 win Monday night in front of 5,147 at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Salem-Keizer allowed eight hits, six walks, five hit-by-pitch reaches, two errors, and a balk as the Canadians scored 10 unanswered runs to take the opening two games of the series.

Germany to Face France in World Cup QF

The Germans started as overwhelming favorites, but it was Algeria who bossed the opening exchanges.

(RIO de JANEIRO, Brazil) - Germany World Cup Extra-time goals from Andre Schurrle and Mesut Ozil proved enough to edge Germany past Algeria and into a FIFA World Cup quarter-final against France.

After the first 90 minutes ended goalless, Schurrle’s sublime flick broke the deadlock and Ozil doubled the European giants’ lead, with Abdelmoumene Djabou’s 11th-hour goal proving too little, too late for the spirited north Africans.

It all began in 2008, when Jerry Howard, current Senior Marketing Executive for the Volcanoes, wanted to create a patriotic promotion at the ballpark for the 4 of July. During all three games of the series, the Volcanoes team will be wearing their stars and stripes jerseys, and 176 American flags will decorate the ballpark.

France will face the winner of Germany - Algeria.

(BRASILIA, Brazil) - France World Cup France have marched through to the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Nigeria in Brasilia.

Didier Deschamps' side were given a tough time of it by the African champions, but edged this tight encounter in the Estadio Nacional thanks to a Paul Pogba header and an injury-time own goal by Joseph Yobo.

Keselowski led 199 of 267 laps and becomes the sixth driver to win two or more Sprint Cup races this season.

(SPARTA, Kentucky) - Brad Keselowski NASCAR Brad Keselowski spent most of the Quaker State 400 out front, but had to chase down and pass five cars before he could celebrate another victory at Kentucky Speedway.

He passed Kyle Busch for the lead with 20 laps remaining Saturday and pulled away to claim the Sprint Cup Series race for the second time in three years.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Salem Keizer Volcanoes Drew Leenhouts compiled one of the most memorable outings in recent Volcanoes history, but Salem-Keizer's offense was held mostly silent in a 2-1 loss to Eugene in front of 3,267 at PK Park.

With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Marcus Davis drew a five-pitch walk from Steven Neff to avoid the series sweep and snap a 14-game losing streak to Salem-Keizer.

The Volcanoes are in the middle of an eight-game road trip, traveling to Vancouver Sunday for a five-game series.

(KEIZER, Ore. ) - Salem Keizer Volcanoes The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, in conjunction with the San Francisco Giants, announced Saturday that Albany, Oregon native Christian Lichtenthaler will join the Volcanoes roster Saturday in advance of the team's game at Eugene.

Lichtenthaler, who attended Concordia University and played baseball the last two seasons, signed with the San Francisco Giants as a free agent shortly after the conclusion of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player draft.
