Senate Bill Protects Renters When Landlords are in Foreclosure

SB 952 will help prevent unexpected eviction, loss of rental deposits.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon's State Capitol With the foreclosure crisis continuing to hit Oregon hard, the Senate passed SB 952 this morning, protecting the rights of tenants when the property they rent or lease goes into foreclosure.

“As the number of foreclosed investment properties continues to increase, Oregon renters face uncertainty about the fate of their homes,” said Senator Suzanne Bonamici (D-Washington County/Portland), chair of Senate Consumer Protection Committee.

Residential Property Values Fell $2.4 Trillion During 2008 According to Newly Released Data

Salem home prices decrease.

(SALEM, Ore.) - For Sale sign Home prices across the country declined 11.1 percent in December 2008 compared to a year ago, and the total value of residential properties for December 2008 was $19.1 trillion, down $2.4 trillion from $21.5 trillion in December of 2007, according to First American CoreLogic and its LoanPerformance Home Price Index (HPI).

In Salem, home prices have decreased 8.98 percent in December compared to a year ago.

The Web site provides a free listing, free legal paperwork and even a free sign for home owners selling their home without a real estate agent.

(BEND, Ore.) - A BigBrick.com sign directs home shoppers to the free Web site. When Shawn and Molly Kelly’s Bend, Oregon home failed to sell after six months on the market with a realtor, they decided to drop the price and sell it on their own. They enlisted help from the free service BigBrick.com that included listing their home for nothing on the company's Web site.

Two days later, a buyer saw their house on BigBrick.com and made an offer. The closing is next month.

Survey Shows Oregonians Paying Less for Homeowner Insurance

Figures don't include protection for earthquakes and floods.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Row of well maintained homes in Salem, Oregon Oregonians spend less for homeowner insurance than residents of almost any other state, according to a national survey.

The average premium for the most commonly purchased homeowner policy was $491 in 2005, ranking Oregon 48th lowest out of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The nationwide average was $764 in the survey conducted by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
