Bill to Ban Single-Use Plastic Bags Dies in Committee

The Surfrider Foundation and their coalition partners will continue working within these and other cities throughout the state to implement local bag bans.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Bird with plastic bag Today SB 536 – a bill that would have banned single-use plastic carryout bags statewide, failed to make it out of the Senate Rules committee.

“It’s frustrating to see the Senate fail to take action and pass this bill given how much of an economic and environmental impact these bags have on Oregon businesses and our beautiful state,” says Gus Gates, Surfrider Foundation’s Oregon Policy Manager.

Portland Police Investigating Shooting Death in North Portland

Anyone with information about this morning's shooting is urged to call detectives.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Shooting investigation Portland Police Bureau Homicide Detectives are investigating an overnight shooting death at North Trenton and Newman in the New Columbia neighborhood. Based on preliminary information, detectives believe that the shooting is gang-related.

The victim, an 18-year old male, died at the scene. The Oregon State Medical Examiner is performing an autopsy this morning, after which the victim's name will be released.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - handcuffed man On Thursday May 12, 2011 Portland Police Bureau Homicide Detectives arrested two suspects and served several search warrants in connection with the homicide of Shiloh Hampton.

20-year-old Jimmie Ray Sanders-Garcia was arrested for Murder, Attempted Murder and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. 21-year-old Edward Mohr was also arrested for Murder, Attempted Murder and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
