May 3 to May 5 Events Explore Mexican and Mexican-American History in Oregon

An art exhibition, lectures and Cinco de Mayo celebration will take place in Portland

(PORTLAND, OR) - Mexico to Oregon “From Mexico to Oregon: History, Culture and Identity,” a series of events presented by the University of Oregon’s Latin American Studies Program, will take place May 3 to May 5 at the White Stag Block in Portland.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, where the Mexican army defeated the French occupying forces on May 5, 1862.

Mexican Supreme Court justices determined that the community of Huitosachi has a right to participate in the decision-making of an organization spearheading tourism development in Chihuahua’s Sierra Tarahumara region.

7.6 Earthquake Strikes Guerrero, Mexico Near Acapulco

No serious injuries or damage has been reported.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Mexico earthquake 7.6 The 7.6 earthquake struck southern Mexico today at 12:02 P.M. The epicenter was in Oaxaca, in the state of Guerrero,120 miles east of Acapulco.

Tens of thousands of people experienced swaying buildings in Mexico City and beyond, but damage has not been determined and there have been no injuries reported at this time.
