Meth Epidemic Forum Thursday at Salem Hospital

Come and find out what’s being done to prevent meth from getting into our community.

(SALEM) - The public is invited to a free forum to learn the affect of meth in the local community and how the community is standing up to the challenge.

Bob Bovett, local attorney and member of the Governor's Meth Task Force, will participate in a panel discussion on the meth epidemic in Oregon.

The panel will include professionals from the community, who will address the legal, medical, and social ramifications of meth abuse.

Panelists include Anna Petersen, Executive Chair of No Meth, Not in My Neighborhood, and Walt Myers, former Salem Chief of Police and interim safety and security manager at Salem Hospital.

Detectives Seize Drugs, Guns From Residence, 5-year-old Child Taken Into Protective Custody

(SALEM) - Marion County Street Crimes Detectives, assisted by Salem police and Oregon State Police investigators, served a search warrant at 4527 Boulder Dr SE in Salem as part of an ongoing investigation on Wednesday night.

Sheriff`s spokesman Kevin Rau said detectives arrested 30-year-old Manuel Morales-Beiza and 21-year-old Obet Gomez-Beiza.

Investigators seized 2.5 ounces of methamphetamine and 5 ounces of heroin from the home.

Parents are encouraged to bring their teenage children with them to learn more about meth and our youth, meth use prevention, how to recognize it, and what to do if you find meth is in your home.

Linn Drug Team Search Warrant Leads to Arrests

(ALBANY) - Counterclockwise from lower left; Deanna Renee Paul, Ranae Marie Anderson and Santos Albert Rivera Drug arrests in Albany and Lebanon in recent days have landed three residents in jail on a number of charges, the arrests also led to a child being removed from a home and placed in protective custody by the Department of Human Services.

Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says that on Wednesday April 12th, the Linn Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at 1105 SW Washington St. in Albany. Seized in the raid were suspected Methamphetamine, scales, drug paraphernalia, cash, drug records and miscellaneous prescription pills.

Wirth Pleads Guilty in Meth Case

(SALEM - AP) - Former State Rep. Kelley Wirth pleaded guilty Thursday to possession of methamphetamine in a scandal that began when Wirth was run over and seriously injured by a woman who accused Wirth of having an affair with her boyfriend.

In a brief proceeding in Marion County Circuit Court, the Corvallis Democrat was sentenced to 18 months of probation and 80 hours of community service.

As part of the sentencing, Judge Joseph Guimond ordered Wirth to have no contact with Fernando Mendez, who told police that he had had a sexual relationship with Wirth, which she denies.

Wirth to Change Plea on Thursday

(SALEM) - Former Democratic State Representative Kelly Wirth from Corvallis is scheduled to be back in a Marion County courtroom on Thursday for a change of plea hearing.

The 40-year-old resigned after she was charged with possession of methamphetamine. Police say they found a small amount of the drug after searching her vehicle after she was run-down outside the Capitol last year.

Police Take Kids Into Protective Custody, Parents Arrested, Home Posted as a Public Health Hazar

Police took into protective custody an 8-year-old boy, and two 6-year-olds girls from the home

(SALEM) - police tape logo Officers from Salem Police Department's Drug Activity Response Team, responded to a complaint at 745 21st St. SE.

Upon arrival, officers found that the house was filthy and unsuitable for the children.

Salem Police spokesman Lt. Steve Bellshaw says amphetamine residue and paraphernalia were located inside the home, and were in areas accessible to the children.

The gas to heat the house had been off for several weeks.

Half Pound of Meth Seized by Keizer Police

(KEIZER) - Jose Manuel Martinez and Oscar Omar Guichard Martinez Photo: Keizer Police Police officers in Keizer say they seized over half a pound of crystal meth Monday night during the arrest of two men who had been under investigation for suspected drug activity.

Sgt. Jeff Isham of the Department`s Community Response Unit took the men into custody on a number of related charges.

For officers like Jeff Isham, the half-pound haul was bigger than usual, `The street value of the methamphetamine is approximately $5,500.`

(SALEM) - One of the print and outdoor ads in Montana's anti-meth campaign Folks in Big Sky Country say they`re taking crime and health problems stemming from methamphetamine in their state by the horns, in the process ignoring politically correct approaches employed in Oregon and other states that many say put rose colored shades on a problem eating at the very heart of the population, young and old alike.

The kids they`re going to reach with a message from Johnny Quarterback are not the kids we`re worried about in the first place.
