Troop And Veterans Appreciation Day to be Held This Month

The Oregon Veterans Motorcycle Association is also sponsoring a Poker Run with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Coalition of Troop Support.

(McMINNVILLE ) - Soldier shadow Active Duty military members and prior service veterans will be honored during the fourth annual Troop and Veterans Appreciation Day in McMinnvile, September 23rd.

Veterans and their families will be recognized for their service to our country, and treated to food and music.
A traveling military museum and several other military items will be on display.

Contest Underway to Name The Yamhill County Transit District

The contest is scheduled to run from September 1st to September 30th. The Yamhill County Commissioners will decide the winner of the contest.

(MCMINNVILLE) - Yamhill bus Yamhill County has announced it will give away a gift basket containing products from various Yamhill County vendors as part of a contest to name the county’s transit district.

When submitting an entry please include your name and contact information along with your suggested name for the district.

Upon recommendation from the local Yamhill Transportation Committee (YTC), the Board of Commissioners approved the formation of an ORS County Service District.

McMinnville Soldier Recovering From Injuries Sustained in Iraq Roadside Attack (AUDIO)

(MCMINNVILLE) - soldiers A 22-year-old McMinnville soldier is recovering in a Texas military hospital from burns suffered in a roadside attack on his Bradley fighting vehicle on June 23rd in Iraq.

Salvador Trujillo-Lopez suffered second- and third-degree burns over 40 percent of his body, according to his wife, Brittnay.

She is with her husband at Brook Army Medical Center, at San Antonio's Fort Sam Houston, where he is expected to spend the rest of the year.

One Person Dies in Head-On Crash Near McMinnville

(MCMINNVILLE) - fatal crash investigation logo One person died and another received non-life threatening injuries in a two-vehicle head-on crash Friday evening on Highway 18 near the west McMinnville bypass.

This is the second fatal crash investigated by Oregon State Police Friday and the first that falls within the official Fourth of July holiday reporting period. The name of the victim is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

OSP troopers say that at approximately 7:10 PM, a 1991 Mazda Miata driven by an adult male was eastbound on Highway 18 near milepost 44.5 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed into the westbound lane.

McMinnville UFO Parade Looms Closer

(MCMINNVILLE) - The McMinnville, Oregon community once again welcome all UFO believers, aliens, skeptics and the like for the annual UFO parade and UFO Fest. The UFO Parade will make its annual trek down Third Street on Saturday the 20th.

The McMinnville Downtown Associations Cyndi Fusek says the event will be a real blast, "Celebrate with us this year as we welcome Mr. Mac High, Cameron Schmidt, and fellow contestants as Grand Marshall`s of the parade! We have two marching bands from McMenamins, the McMenamins Marching band and the Hammerheads with March Forth, beginning and ending the parade."

She says Vivid Curve, a didgeridoo band out of Portland will help children in creating their very own instruments – and then bring all down to march in the parade. The Klingon`s from Salem`s Star Trek Club will make an appearance, and Columbus Elementary will entertain the crowds with twelve unicyclists.

Young Girl Dies in Rollover Crash South of McMinnville

This is the second fatal crash in the last five days on this stretch of LaFayette Highway, Frederick "Rick" Braun of Forest Grove died Tuesday when a driver turned in front of his Harley Davidson.

(MCMINNVILLE) - An 11-year old girl died Saturday morning after the vehicle she was a passenger in rolled over on SE La Fayette Highway about five miles south of McMinnville.

Police say a Nissan Quest van driven by the victim's mother, Maria Rios-Andrade, was northbound at milepost 5.5 on SE La Fayette Highway at approximately 8:30 AM.

After coming out of a left hand curve, investigators say Maria Rios-Andrade lost control for an unknown reason and the van rolled, coming to rest upside in the ditch bordering the southbound lane.

McMinnville Prepares for Annual UFO Festival

(MCMINNVILLE) - 2005 UFO Festival Parade The McMinnville Downtown Association (MDA) and McMenamins Hotel Oregon once again welcome all UFO believers, aliens, skeptics and the like for the annual UFO parade and UFO Fest.

The event, which celebrates a 1950 UFO citing on a farm just outside of McMinnville, will be held May 19th and 20th, in Historic Downtown McMinnville.

The UFO Parade will make its annual trek down Third Street on Saturday the 20th. The MDA is looking for parade entries to compete in the areas of Best Alien Float, Best Alien Group, and Best Alien Male & Female (who will also be named King & Queen of the parade), and Best Alien Child.
