Marion County Now Offers Online Building Permits

The county joins the state’s 24-hour-a-day e-permitting service.

(SALEM) - employment news photo Instead of driving to the county office and waiting in line, contactors can now buy simple permits from Marion County any time of the day or night, seven days a week via the Internet.

The site, hosted by the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services’ Building Codes Division, allows contractors to apply and pay for multiple permits from multiple jurisdictions in one transaction.

Marion County Building Inspection is the 15th building department in the state to offer over-the-counter electrical, plumbing, and mechanical permits through the program.

Oregon Prison Escapee Keeps Cops Busy in Woodburn Monday

During the standoff investigators determined that 70-year-old Loren Thompson, who lives at the address was inside the residence and Salinas was not letting him leave.

(WOODBURN, Ore.) - Arturo Ramirez is back in state custody At about noon yesterday Deputies received information from Hubbard PD that Arturo Salinass, the inmate reported to have escaped from the Santiam Correctional Institution over the weekend, was holed up inside.

The Marion County Interagency SWAT team was called to the scene. Over the course of more than five hours, negotiators spoke with Mr Salinas several times.

Suspicious Device Discovered at Marine Recruiting Office in Salem

This is not the first time in recent months that police have been called out the the Marine Recruiting office on Lancaster, a sign on the building was damaged by grafitti late last year.

(SALEM) - Marion County Sheriff badge Marion County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a suspicious device at the Marine Corps Recruiting Office Saturday morning at 4:20 AM The recruiting office is located at 3060 Lancaster Dr NE in Salem, Oregon.

Don Sweet with the Sheriff's Office says officers arriving on the scene found the suspicious device at the front of the building.

Deputies Trace Leak From Stolen Car to NE Salem Home

(SALEM, Ore.) - Police car lights Marion County Deputies traced a fluid leak from a stolen car back to a home on Lancaster Dr. where they served a search warrant at about 11:30 this morning.

Marion County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Kevin Rau says police received a call just before 5:00 AM this morning from Brian Butler, a Prostar Security officer, who contacted the Sheriff's Office to report a suspicious car parked in the driveway of the Rockwood Park Apartments on Rockwood Park Pl NE in Salem.

Man Leads Police on Chase Through Woodburn

Police said a small amount of drugs and a methamphetamine pipe was also discovered in the vehicle.

(WOODBURN, Ore. ) - hand cuffs Woodburn police say a man led authorities on a chase through Woodburn early Thursday.

Police say the chase started when an officer noticed a car without headlights and tried to pull the driver over.

The driver, 22-year-old Pablo Garcia, sped through Woodburn with the officer in pursuit and then lost control and crashed at the intersection of Newberg Highway and Butteville Road.

Wheatland Ferry Closes Tuesday

It is anticipated that this process will take several additional days depending upon weather conditions.

(WHEATLAND, Ore.) - Wheatland Ferry The Wheatland Ferry will be closing Tuesday March, 13th as the river level is expected to be well above the Ferry's maximum operating level of 15.8 feet by Tuesday morning.

Operators say the ferry should be operational through all of the scheduled hours on Monday the 12th based upon the current NOAA Northwest River Forecast Center projection.

The Ferry will be closed beginning Tuesday morning March 13th. Projections are for the river to be above the operational range through March 13th.

Marion County Receives $20,000 Grant for Food Recovery/Waste Reduction Program

The Fresh Alliance Food Recovery Program will work to reduce food waste and alleviate hunger throughout Marion County.

(SALEM) - Marion-Polk Food Share The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has awarded a $20,000 solid waste grant to Marion County for a program that helps prevent food waste from going to local landfills while also filling a need to provide area residents with nutritious food.

The “Fresh Alliance Food Recovery Program” project grant is among the 15 awarded this year by DEQ to help communities promote solid waste prevention/reduction and conduct household hazardous waste programs.

The solid waste grants program, established by the Oregon Legislature, is funded through fees on solid waste disposal throughout the state.
