Man Faces Numerous Charges After Police Chase

The vehicle struck an apartment and the force of the knocked a child's bed several feet away from the wall, fortunately the child was not home when it happened.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Just after midnight, a Marion County Sheriff's deputy says he attempted to pull over a suspected DUII driver at Lancaster Drive and Sunnyview Drive in Salem.

But the suspect failed to yield to the traffic stop and a chase lasting 8.4 miles ensued through Salem and into Keizer. The Marion County Sheriff's Office says the attempt to elude officers ended abruptly.

Bomb Threat Leads to Evacuation of Marion County Courthouse

Deputies make arrest in Marion County Courthouse bomb threat.

(SALEM, Ore.) - 40-year old Jiy Travis Williams of Willamina, Oregon bomb threat suspect The police dispatch center in Salem received a 911 call today from a male caller who indicated that a "bomb" would detonate at the Marion County Courthouse in 20 minutes. The call was placed at 12:55 PM.

The courthouse was the subject of a hostile takeover in 2005, it had to be rebuilt afterward. It seems natural that law enforcement officers in Marion County would take a threat against their courthouse very seriously.

Marion County Deputies Track Alleged Metal Thief Hiding in Brier Patch

(KEIZER, Ore.) - 53-year old Danny Packer and 50-year old William Quayle Marion County deputies were called out to Windsor Island Road today after a citizen reported finding two men on their property "burning wire" which police say is often an attempt to burn the plastic coating off of wire in order to sell the metal.

Commander Jason Myers with the Marion County Sheriff says the property owner suspected the males were possible drug users and made contact with them. He reportedly told them he had called the Sheriff's office and deputies were enroute, he then warned them to stay where they were.

One Resident Hurt in Explosion as Fires Damage Salem Area Homes

Marion County Fire District responds to two fires, 3 minutes apart.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Fires in Marion County, Oregon 3-27-08 Marion County firefighters responded to two Salem area fires today with only three minutes between the calls.

The first callout involved an explosion in a residence that was blamed on an aerosol can being thrown accidentally in a fireplace, two people were injured in a related explosion. The second fire broke out in an unoccupied travel trailer and caused no injuries.

Oregon Police Seek Man Over Homicide Involving Deputy

(GERVAIS, Ore.) - Alfredo De Jesus–Ascencio, suspect in vehicle homicide involving Oregon deputy June 16th, 2007 Police and prosecutors are asking for the public's assistance in locating a Woodburn man wanted on homicide charges related to a June 16th fatal motor vehicle crash on Highway 99E near Gervais.

The two-vehicle crash resulted in the death of two people, Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Kelly Fredenburg and Oscar Oscencio-Amaya.

Marion County Sheriff Raul Ramirez Announces Retirement

Ramirez was named Sheriff of the Year in 2006.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Sheriff Raul Ramirez Marion County Sheriff Raul Ramirez announced today that he plans to retire next month.

"It is with a heavy heart that I announce my retirement as Marion County Sheriff effective September 1st", Ramirez said.

He began his career with Marion County as a Juvenile Parole and Probation officer and in 1975 joined the ranks of the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
