Marion County Traffic Safety Team Deputies Investigate Head-On Crash

UPDATE: Following the investigation by the MCSO Traffic Safety Team, Ian Beyers was charged with driving while Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Reckless Driving, and Assault 3.

(SALEM, Ore.) - wrecked 96 sentra A head-on motor vehicle crash sent one driver to the hospital by helicopter earlier this evening. Marion County Deputies responded to a call received at 5:07 p.m. and located the crash in the 18000 block of Fobert Road NE, between Hubbard and Aurora.

Santiam Bicycle, Venti`s Cafe to Host Cranksgiving Event

(SALEM, Oregon) - Cranksgiving Food Drive Poster Avid bicyclist Cory Heintz is partnering with Santiam Bicycle and Venti’s Café to organize what may be Salem’s first Cranksgiving food drive on Saturday, Nov. 13. The event will benefit Marion-Polk Food Share.

“It’s a good time for a good cause,” said Heintz, who first participated in a Cranksgiving ride when he lived in Des Moines, Iowa. Apparently, the event originated in New York City in 1999.

Chemawa Indian School & Marion County Sign Agreement

(SALEM, Ore.) - Deputy Steve Polanski Explaining the MOU to an Assembly of Chemawa Students At 129 years, the Chemawa Indian School is the oldest continuously operating boarding school in the United States. The 300-acre campus is located on Chemawa Road, about 5 miles north of downtown Salem, and serves approximately 320 Native American students in grades 9 through 12. Chemawa is a Bureau of Indian Education school and as such, its property is considered a federal enclave subject to exclusive federal jurisdiction.

In 2005, the Marion County Sheriff's Office signed a contract with Chemawa Indian School to provide law enforcement services to the school. To legally provide these services, the three deputies assigned to Chemawa are also sworn as Special US Marshals.

Suspect Sought for Salem Credit Union Robbery

Suspect last seen walking northbound on Lancaster Drive

(SALEM, Ore.) - MAPS Credit Union Robbery Suspect A lone robber fled the MAPS Credit Union at 4001 Winema Place NE in Salem shortly after robbing a teller this afternoon. Marion County Deputies were dispatched to the robbery at 12:36pm. They were assisted by Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Witnesses described the robber as a white male subject in his early 30's, 5'-8" to 6'-0", 185-195 pounds with light brown hair and an acne marked complexion. He was wearing dark sunglasses, a light blue/green baseball style hat with an emblem on the front and an adjustable strap on the back and a gray or tan sweatshirt with "Nike Athletics" written on the front. He also wore light-colored shirt, hanging out beneath the sweatshirt, blue jeans and light-colored tennis shoes.
