Salem, Keizer Chambers of Commerce Sign Up For Drug-Free Workplace Initiative

The drug-free workplace initiative is an element of the Oregon Business Plan, a 12-point strategy that state business leaders have crafted to strengthen the state’s commerce, payrolls and economy. DHS provides funding and staff support.

(SALEM) - Drug testing A statewide initiative aimed at tripling the number of Oregon employers who adopt and enforce drug-free workplace policies by the end of 2008 is adding seven more communities as pilot sites.

The Oregon Department of Human Services initiative is adding two Portland business organizations and the chambers of commerce of Astoria-Warrenton, Cannon Beach, Keizer, McMinnville, Salem and Seaside.

Dog With History of Attacks Kills Neighbor Dog

Keizer Police say the 5-year old Pekingese involved in the attack has died. The exact cause, however, is unknown according to the family, and a Necropsy will be scheduled to determine cause.

(KEIZER) - A Keizer woman called Police Friday evening at 7:41 PM to Department report that her neighbor’s dog had just attacked her and her dog. A Keizer police officer responded within minutes and arrived at 5322 Jeffrey Court North within a few minutes.
The victim, Karen Wright-Bayless, told officers that her dog, a 5-year old female Pekingese, was attacked by her neighbors Akita.

Three Vehicle Rollover Crash in Keizer Injures Two

Fortunately police say the injures suffered in the crash were only minor.

(KEIZER) - Just after noon Friday, the Keizer Police Department received a report of a traffic crash involving three vehicles at the intersection of River Rd N and Sam Orcutt Wy NE.

Police officers arrived at the scene within minutes and found a red Ford pickup operated by 61-year-old Judy Lay on top of a red Dodge Neon.

The pickup was upside down and resting on the hood of the red Neon.

The other vehicle involved, a blue Dodge Neon, was also disabled in the roadway.

House Fire Claims Life in Keizer

The fire was discovered after a newspaper delivery person several blocks from the fire scene smelled smoke and began to find the source of the smell.

(KEIZER) - Keizer fire unit A house fire in Keizer Friday morning led to the death of a resident. Keizer firefighters responded to responded to the report of a house fire shortly before 6:00 AM on Friday.

Firefighters arriving at home at 535 Hornet Dr. North observed smoke coming from the single family dwelling. Before fire crews attacked the fire they reported that flames were visible. Following standard procedure, Fire Spokesman Jim Trett says they immediately began a search of the structure. Shortly after starting the search, a body was located in the living room of the home. They say the victim had succumbed to their injuries before the arrival of fire units.

State Report Card: All Salem-Keizer Schools Are Satisfactory or Higher

Five schools improved their rating from the previous year, including McKay High School and Parrish Middle School who went from “low” to “satisfactory”.

(SALEM) - Salem-Keizer girls in school State Report Cards were released Wednesday and show that 100% of Salem-Keizer rated schools received a satisfactory or higher mark for 2005-06.

Man Shot and Robbed in Keizer Early Saturday

The Keizer Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident, individuals hearing what may have been a gunshot, or who may have otherwise seen the victim or suspect on or near River Road prior to 2:39 AM to contact them.

(KEIZER) - A Newberg man says he was shot through the hand and robbed while walking in the 4300 block of River Road North early Saturday morning around 2:30 AM.

Keizer Police were dispatched to a convenience store after the clerk called and said a man had come into the business with an injury to his hand. Then learned that the victim had been robbed and was injured during the course of the robbery.

Keizer Fire District Open House Monday

Visitors will be able to see apparatus displays and get valuable fire safety information. In addition visitors can participate in fun activities and enjoy refreshments.

(KEIZER) - Kezer Fire engine The Keizer Fire District will be holding its annual Fire Prevention Week Open House on Monday.

Activities include demonstrations of kitchen fire safety, the use of fire extinguishers, and free blood pressure checks. Children of all ages will be able to use a real fire hose, try their skills at the Junior Firefighter Challenge and practice crawling low under smoke through the home escape maze.

Meth Arrest Yields More Than 125 Stolen Items

Anyone that is missing tools and construction type equipment from a recent burglary or theft should call Keizer Police at 503-856-3478.

(KEIZER) - Suspect Sidney Lucein Carlson A Keizer man is in custody on over a million and a half-dollars bail after his arrest for possession and sales of meth charges. Jeff Isham with Keizer Police says the arrest concluded a month long drug investigation.

Keizer detectives served a search warrant at 926 Appleblossom Drive NE Wednesday afternoon, due to evidence they had gathered linking Sidney L. Carlson to methamphetamine sales.

Attorney General Files Lawsuit Against Two Salem, Keizer Contractors for Doing Business Without a License

Ramiro Rudy Ramirez of Keizer, doing business as Crystal Clear Designers, and Sean Bender of Salem, doing business as Diversified Construction, are named in lawsuits filed in Marion County Circuit Court.

(SALEM) - Contractor shadows Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers is suing two unlicensed contractors for allegedly taking money for work not completed or never started, and subsequently disregarding warnings and notices from the Attorney General’s office.

“Operating without a license and taking money for work never started or completed is outrageous,” Myers said. “But intentionally ignoring law enforcement will not be tolerated.”
