Study Links OxyContin to Increase in Deaths in Canada

Oxycodone deaths rose fivefold in Ontario after OxyContin – the brand name of a popular version of the prescription painkiller – was introduced to the public drug plan, according to a study published recently in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

A study in Canada indicates that deaths from the misuse of prescription narcotic painkillers almost doubled in 13 years.

Pets Perish but Family Escapes from Second Story of Burning Tigard Home (SLIDESHOW)

(TIGARD, Ore.) - Photos of house fire in Tigard, Ore. 12-12-09 by TVF&R Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue called out just after 8:00 a.m. this morning to reports of a home on fire in the 8700 block of SW Spruce Street in Tigard.

Cassandra Ulven with TVF&R, says firefighters from Tigard Station 51 arrived within four minutes to find heavy smoke and flames coming from most of the windows of the two-story home at 8708 SW Spruce Street.

Police Warning Regarding Weather-related Crashes

ODOT and OSP urge travelers to know before you go and monitor your local weather forecasts and road conditions.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Photos of Oregon vehicles crashed in bad weather 12-12-09 Oregon State Police responded to well over 100 traffic crashes since midnight throughout Oregon with the busiest areas being southern Oregon and the lower Willamette Valley.

Frozen Pipe Calls Keep Firefighters Busy

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue offers tips for residents who want to avoid frozen water pipes.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Two Hillsboro firefighters push water from an unheated warehouse flooded by a broken sprinkler pipe. Fire officials in Hillsboro say a flurry of broken water pipes in homes and businesses frozen by the week's surprisingly cold temperatures, prompted citizens to call firefighters for help.

Storm Smith with Hillsboro Fire, says once the temperatures rose near 32-degrees on Tuesday and the broken pipes began thawing, firefighters began responding to calls for assistance.

The citizens of Maine don't deserve a U.S. Attorney who has both hands plunged into the deep pockets of Purdue Pharma and is their "poster child."

(ASHEVILLE, N.C.) - Salem-News.com Last week I received a telephone call from a concerned citizen in the State of Maine. "Are you aware that Jay McCloskey, former US Attorney of Maine may be confirmed once again as our US Attorney?"

I was aware, but had thought it wasn't a "done deal." I think I'm wrong and it may just be a very "scary" done deal.

Crews Battle Four More House Fires in Portland

Includes safety tips to keep you and your family alive this winter.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland Fire and Rescue in Oregon logo Portland Fire and Rescue has responded to 4 other house fires since the early morning fire at SE 81st and Taylor. 3 of the 4 fires are related to the cold weather, according to the agency's spokesman, Lt. Dave Centers.

"All fires were a single alarm which brings 4 Engines, 1 Truck, 1 Rescue, 2 Chiefs, and 2 Investigators. Due to the extreme weather a Rehab Unit was called for on each fire. 27 to 30 Firefighters responded on each the 4 fires. At this time no injuries were reported at any of the fires."

Two Storms to Descend on California

Landslides and mudflow could be disastrous in burn areas.

(LOS ANGELES) - California rain AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Ken Clark reported in his blog that a stormy pattern is descending on California, bringing two storms, one of Sunday through Monday, the other on Wednesday and Thursday.

Rain and snow will break out in northern California Sunday night and spread rapidly south late Sunday night and Monday. Snow levels are likely to be only 1,000 feet in the north, about 1,500 to 2,000 feet around the Bay Area to the Central Coastal Mountains, and down to 3,500 to 4,500 feet from the Los Angeles County Mountains to San Diego.

An Interesting story regarding an eye doctor in Asheville by the name of Dr. Earl Sunderhaus caught my attention. Dr. Sunderhaus is awaiting word from the medical society about any actions it may take against him for making cutting criticisms of a female patient including telling her she was fat and poking her thigh. Sunderhaus could lose his medical license.
