Canby Family Roused From Sleep by Raging Fire

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

(CANBY, Ore.) - Fire in Canby, Oregon 7-8-09 A Canby family awoke to the sound of a raging fire and a smoke alarm this morning just after midnight.

"They looked out the window to find there storage shed fully involved in fire no more then a few feet from there home," Deputy Fire Marshal Todd Gary said.

Salem Fire Department is Hosting a Grand Opening Ceremony

Deputy Fire Marshals will be in attendance to answer questions and provide helpful information in regards to safety precautions you can take at home.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem, Oregon Fire logo The Salem Fire Department is hosting a grand opening ceremony at Fire Station 11, 1970 Orchard Heights Rd NW, on July 14th 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The public is encouraged to attend the fourth and final open house to tour the new facility, meet firefighters and see a few of the new apparatus that have been purchased through the bond.

Oregon Wildfire Update

Fire Update for Tuesday, July 7, 2009‏

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon wildland firefighters Beginning Sunday, Oregon began to experience our first significant wildfire activity of the 2009 season. The John Day area received most of the activity with several lightning starts.

The lightning-caused Twelve Mile Fire burning in light fuels - grass, open pine and juniper - is located about 12 miles north of the town of Long Creek off Highway 395. The fire is estimated at 630 acres and 6 Type 2 handcrews along with 2 strike teams of engines were assigned to this fire. The fire is now 100 percent lined and mop us has started.

Pickup Fire Partially Closed I-5 south of Salem for 90-Minutes (PHOTOS)

The fire spread to a grassy hillside, damaging a small section of state highway property, including trees and brush.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Photos of crash scene: Oregon State Police The northbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Salem were restricted to one lane Saturday afternoon for about 90 minutes after a pickup caught fire and spread to a grassy hillside south of Salem.

Oregon State Police Trooper Steve Hinkle says at approximately 5:40 p.m. a 1994 Ford F-150 pickup towing a 5th wheel travel trailer was northbound when it began to smoke.

There are over 10,000 injuries reported in the United States each year from the misuse of both legal and illegal fireworks.

Each year, police and fire departments respond to numerous complaints involving illegal fireworks. Illegal fireworks can disrupt the peaceful celebrations of others and can ruin the tranquility and livability of a neighborhood as well.

(SWEET HOME, Ore.) - Oregon Wildland Firefighter training It's hard to underestimate the importance of fire safety in a state like Oregon. This week, in preparation for the upcoming summer fire season, students are learning the finer points of wildland firefighting and honing their skills, until they get it right.

Paul Heibert, the incident commander at the wildland firefighter school, says a lot of the work is standardized training. "It's done nationally and we don't have a lot of wiggle room as far as what we teach them. which I'd say is a good thing. So three of the five days we have the mandatory stuff and the rest of it we have some play."

Portland Firefighters Battle 2 Alarm Fire in West Hills (PHOTOS)

Firefighters made an aggressive attack but because of the extent of the fire and questions about safety, they withdrew from the home for about 30 minutes dousing the fire from a safe distance.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Fire in Portland, Oregon's west hills, 6-24-09 Firefighters from Portland Fire & Rescue and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue responded to the report of a BBQ grill on fire and extending to the house Wednesday at about 1:00 p.m. The house is located at 13516 NW Glendoveer Drive.

Lt. Allen Oswalt with Portland Fire & Rescue says firefighters encountered several challenges in bringing the fight to this fire.

Salem Firefighters Knock Down Blaze at Minto Brown Park

Thick underbrush and grass made it difficult for firefighters to know if the brush fire was completely out; at this point they say the cause is undetermined and it is currently under investigation.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Fire at Minto Brown Park in Salem, Oregon 6-24-09 Salem firefighters responded to a second alarm brush fire at Minto Brown Park Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. The fire was in the 2200 block of Minto Island Road S.

Deputy Fire Marshal Jeff Mack with Salem Fire, says upon arrival, crews found about half an acre burning.

Mack says it was difficult to get to due to the remote location inside the park. "Grass Rigs from Salem Fire Department and Keizer Fire Districts made way into the remote location and extinguished the fire."
