Indie Labels Headline Cherry City Music Festival

(SALEM, Ore.) - Cherry City Music Festival This spring, historic downtown Salem will transform into a bubbling cauldron of bleeding edge independent music as dozens of bands converge at the 3rd Annual Cherry City Music Festival on April 9-11, 2009 to benefit at-risk youth, diabetes awareness and arts education.

Independent record labels Kill Rock Stars, K Records, Asthmatic Kitty Records, Tender Loving Empire Records and Boy Gorilla Records host some of their top artists to entertain, inform and schmooze in a celebration of do-it-yourself ethic.

Local, International Films Highlight 6th Video Festival

A video festival in Salem that has grown steadily, this year goes international.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Video camera The 6th Mid-Valley Video Festival returns for two day of independent films, networking and parties, February 27 and 28 at Northern Lights Theatre Pub in Salem.

Several locally-produced full length features will also be shown. The debut from writer, director, and star Raymond Steers, "Sum of the Parts" blends action, science fiction, innovative editing and a montage of photos and computer effects to reveal a captivating and suspenseful thrill ride.

Winter Rod & Speed Show This Weekend in Albany

It happens at the Linn County Expo Center near the Airport in Albany, Saturday January 31st from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Hot rod at a previous Salem area show. Ever go to a hot rod show? If the answer is yes, then I don't need to explain how awesome it is to see a whole bunch of cool cars gathered for a single event.

The best thing about this weekend's show in Albany is that it is held indoors, so rain or shine it is guaranteed to be a fantastic event.

2008 State Fair A Big Hit For 365,000+

The Oregon State Fair once again became Oregon’s second largest city over the course of its 11-day run with a 2.4% increase over 2007.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Fair More than 365,000 people attended the 2008 Oregon State Fair according to estimates released by organizers, who noted the 2.4 percent increase over 2007’s attendance would have been even larger had there not been two days of "liquid sunshine".

A few raindrops weren't enough to keep most Oregonians away. They say that overall, more people found the fair too big to miss; they came, stayed longer, returned for another day, and attended concerts more than ever before.

Hoopla Event a Major Success for Adults and Kids (VIDEO)

Basketball fans from all over the state closed down Court Street for the tenth year in a row.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Hoopla event picture The grand-daddy and largest by far of all of Oregon's three-on-three basketball events, the Hoopla, is the basketball competition in Salem that closes the street in front of the state capitol each year.

It was in full swing Saturday, and in addition to the great basketball, Hoopla 2008 features many things for Oregon’s youngsters, including their free Kids Clinic and a number of contests.

Gerald Moore of Portland, Oregon is one of the players who has graduated from college and is now seeking to begin his career as a professional basketball player. He says the significance of the role model is not to be overlooked, and he says a large number of kids are staying out of trouble every day by vesting time in sports.
