Volcanoes Take Series Opener from Eugene, 5-2

The Volcanoes will look to tie a season-high with a third straight win Friday night in Eugene.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Salem Keizer Volcanoes After collecting their first series win of the 2014 season with a walk-off win against Everett on Wednesday, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes couldn't have started their eight-game, two-country road trip on a better note.

Ethan Miller limited the Eugene Emeralds to just two runs through six innings and the Volcanoes scored five runs in the top of the fifth, as Salem-Keizer cruised to their seventh win of the season in the 5-2 victory at PK Park.

New Oregon Football Players Arrive on Campus

The new additions will also begin strength and conditioning work along with taking classes this summer.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon Ducks Football Summer quarter began at the university on Monday, marking the first day as college students for most of Oregon's 2014 recruiting class and several other new additions to the roster.

Among the new faces is wide receiver Zac Schuller, a junior college transfer who recently signed a financial aid agreement with the Ducks.

Expect Long Delays Tonight on I-5 South of Eugene

Rolling slowdowns will be used in both directions.

(COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. ) - Salem News Traffic Report Late night Interstate 5 motorists should expect long delays between Cottage Grove and Sutherlin on Tuesday, as an oversized load carrying a massive dam gate is transported through the area.

Between 10:45 p.m. and midnight, northbound traffic may be delayed up to 45 minutes while southbound traffic will be delayed approximately 30 minutes.

FBI, Police in Oregon Target Child Sex Trafficking Operations

Many of the adults had been trafficked since they were 13 or 14 years old.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - child sex trafficking The FBI, local law enforcement partners and victim service agencies from throughout the region joined forces to launch multi-day undercover operations targeting child sex trafficking operations in the Portland metro and Eugene areas.

These operations, which ran June 18th - June 22nd, resulted in the recovery of one minor child and the identification of 20 adult prostitutes.

Many of the adults had been trafficked since they were 13 or 14 years old.

Oregon Women`s Soccer Schedule Announced

The Lady Ducks will open with the Badgers of the Big Ten on Aug. 22nd, meeting Wisconsin for the second straight season.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon women's soccer Head coach Kat Mertz and the Oregon women’s soccer team have announced their 2014 schedule, which consists of 19 total matches.

UO’s schedule features 10 matches at Papé Field and seven contests slated to be televised by the Pac-12 Networks.

Oregon State Police Find Marijuana, Hash After Traffic Crash on I-5

Subsequent investigation indicates the vehicle contained numerous jars of marijuana, some of which broke open inside and outside the vehicle.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - The Oregon State Police is continuing the investigation after finding several pounds of marijuana at the scene of Friday morning's injury traffic crash on Interstate 5 south of Eugene.

At approximately 4:50 a.m., OSP troopers, local fire personnel and ODOT responded to a scene of an injury traffic crash involving a sport utility vehicle and commercial truck blocking the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near milepost 190.

Zebra Fish Fins Help Oregon Researchers Gain Insight Into Bone Regeneration

Bone regrowth in humans may be enhanced by manipulating activities of opposing molecular pathways

(EUGENE) - Stewart and Stankunas University of Oregon biologists say they have opened the window on the natural process of bone regeneration in zebra fish, and that the insights they gained could be used to advance therapies for bone fractures and disease.

In a paper placed online in advance of print in the Feb. 13 issue of the journal Cell Reports, the UO team shows that two molecular pathways work in concert to allow adult zebra fish to perfectly replace bones lost upon fin amputation.
