Rabid Bat Found In Benton County

This year in Oregon, 18 animals -- including 16 bats and two foxes -- have tested positive for rabies, compared to nine rabid animals in 2005 and seven in 2004.

(CORVALLIS) - Bat flying Benton County public health officials announced Monday that Oregon State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory has confirmed a rabies-positive bat. The bat was found in the yard of a south Corvallis resident in the past week. The bat tested positive for rabies on Sept. 28th.

The case is still under investigation and so far, no domestic animal exposure has been identified. Rabies is a viral disease that is almost 100 percent fatal once symptoms begin.

Investigators Return to Logging Site to Search For More Human Remains

The Lincoln City Sheriff’s office says a skull found by loggers could be connected to one of 70 missing persons cases.

(LINCOLN CITY) - logging road near Devils Lake in Lincoln City Investigators this weekend began combing through a logging site searching for more human remains or clues as to the identity of a skull found by loggers working just outside Lincoln City over a week ago.

They have not ruled out the possibility that the remains belong to missing BYU student Brooke Wilberger.

Benton County Commissioners Proclaim September as Alcohol And Drug Addiction Recovery Month

The proclamation is an effort to reduce drug use, support recovering substance abusers and reduce the risk of teen drug use in Benton County.

(CORVALLIS) - Benton County Courthouse The Benton County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed the month of September 2006 as Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month in Benton County and September 25th as Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children in Benton County.

According to Jay Dixon, chair of the Benton County Board of Commissioners, the county believes it’s vital to educate the community about the impact of substance use disorders on children and families.

Human Remains Could be Those of Missing BYU Student Brooke Wilberger

However, the Lincoln City Sheriff’s office says the skull could be connected to one of the county’s 70 missing persons cases.

(LINCOLN CITY) - Brooke Wilberger Loggers working on Forest Service Road 1726 near Devils Lake just outside Lincoln City discovered a human skull Thursday.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Curtis Landers says investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the remains belong to Brooke Wilberger, However, and more importantly, the remains could be those of one of the county’s 70 missing persons cases.

“We don’t have a sex or age, we just don’t know who it is” Landers said.

Corvallis Fall Festival This Weekend

The 34th annual Corvallis Fall Festival takes place this weekend in Central Park.

(CORVALLIS) - Laura Kemp performer and songwriter The Corvallis Fall Festival includes a major arts and crafts show, children's activities, 1K, 5K and 10K runs, music entertainment such as blues, West African drum and dance, folk, jazz, funk, and more.

Plus, Saturday night there will be a street dance from 6:00-10:00 PM. The group Stairway Denied will perform live music from the legendary rock band, Led Zeppelin.

The festival is free, and runs Saturday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Oregon State Students Build Wind-Powered Water Heater

The prototype is about the size of a phone booth and topped with a wind turbine made from a 50-gallon steel drum.

(CORVALLIS) - The late Alan Wallace Engineering students from OSU, inspired by a late professor’s rudimentary sketches, has designed a working prototype of a hot water heating system powered solely by the wind.

The students believe the technology, using magnets, a copper plate and plenty of ingenuity, has the potential to birth a new company and make an impact on the way the world heats water, especially in developing countries.

17-Year Old Girl Falls From Moving Van

Injuries the girl received in the 45-mph fall are not considered life-threatening.

(CORVALLIS) - Lifeflight helicopter A 17-year old girl on her way to the Children's Farm Home in Corvallis fell out of a moving vehicle Wednesday. Police say the fall and related injuries resulted from a struggle between the girl and an employee of the Children's Farm Home.

State Police are investigating the Wednesday afternoon incident that happened on Highway 34 east of Corvallis. At the time of the incident, the girl was being transported back to a Corvallis-area residential treatment facility.

OSU, Corvallis Police Community Action Plan to Address Increased Activity Around College Hill

The CPD/OSU Greek Liaison Program has gained national recognition for its success.

(CORVALLIS) - Corvallis Police will implement a Community Policing Action Plan to provide an response to possible increased violations of City Ordinances and Oregon Revised Statutes in the College Hill area of Corvallis.

The change relates to the return of OSU students and increased activity in that area related to home OSU football games.

Sgt. Joel Goodwin says the plan is consistent with similar plans that have been implemented over the past decade to address community livability issues during these periods of increased activity.
