Coast Guard Assists Tillamook County Officials Locate Missing Mushroom Picker

The crew passed on the location of the man to the Tillamook County Sherriff’s Department who directed a ground party to the site where they positively identified and recovered Smith

(SEATTLE, Washington) - Salem-News.com The Coast Guard assisted the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Department in locating a missing 73-year-old man near Nehalem, Oregon, Sunday.

Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Oregon, received a report that Lawrence Smith was missing at approximately 4 p.m., and launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew at 4:07 p.m. to conduct a search in the vicinity of Nehalem.

Coast Guard evacuates crewman from fish processing vessel, Coos Bay

(COOS BAY, Ore.) - HH-65 Dolphin Helicoptor The Coast Guard medically evacuated an injured crewman from a fish processing vessel that was 40 miles southwest of Coos Bay, Ore. at approximately 12:10 a.m., Friday.

The Coast Guard was notified 11 p.m., Thursday that Mamadou Konato, a 46-year-old male, had injured his hand in machinery while working on the 276-foot fish processor Pacific Glacier.

(SEATTLE) - 47 foot rescue boat stationed at Coast Guard Station Tillamook The Coast Guard rescued two people after their fishing vessel capsized crossing the Tillamook, Ore., entrance bar, Sunday.

The 56-foot fishing vessel, Double Eagle, contacted Coast Guard Station Tillamook Bay via VHF radio channel 16, notifying the Coast Guard of its intent to cross the Tillamook Bar at 5:30 p.m.

Umpqua River Lighthouse not required for safe navigation

Specific plans for the disposition of the lighthouse will be made at a later time. There are currently no plans to remove the historic Fresnel lens from the lighthouse

(Seattle, WA) - Umpqua River Lighthouse The U. S. Coast Guard is releasing a Waterways Analysis and Management System report on the Umpqua River in Oregon which states that the Umpqua River Lighthouse is not required for safe navigation. This determination opens the door for the U.S. Coast Guard to begin the process to discontinue the Umpqua River Light as a federal aid to navigation.

The review included multiple surveys from local waterway users, as well as consultation with commercial towing companies, the Port of Umpqua, and other local entities. The majority of respondents indicated the Umpqua River Light is a secondary, or backup aid to navigation.

Coast Guard responds to Injuries on Charter Vessel near Lummi Island

One passenger received a concussion while the other passenger had an injured arm.

(BELLINGHAM) - The 127-foot double masted Zodiac The Coast Guard responded to a distress call from the charter sailing vessel Zodiac after its main mast broke in half injuring two passengers near the San Juan Islands, Wash., Saturday.

The 127-foot double masted schooner was just north of Lummi Island when the incident occurred at approximately 2 p.m.

The search was called off Friday due to reduced visibility

(Astoria, Oregon) - Salem-News.com The Coast Guard and local authorities have suspended the search for a boater who went missing Friday after his 14-foot boat capsized approximately one mile offshore near Waldport, Ore.

The search was suspended at 1:20 p.m. Saturday after the Coast Guard and local authorities searched for the boater throughout Friday night and Saturday.

Coast Guard medevacs passenger from cruise ship

(ASTORIA, Ore.) - US Coast Guard Rescue Crew Aviation Survival Technician 2nd Class Obrien Starr-Hollow, Aviation Maintenance Technician 2nd Class Shawn McCann and Health Service Technician 1st Class Russell Whitman of Air Station Astoria, Ore., tend to a 69-year-old man medically evacuated from the cruise ship Bolendam with head and back injuries Sept. 24, 2010.

The man was taken to Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Ore., for treatment.

(ASTORIA) - Coast Guard Cutter Maple The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Maple, a 225-foot Juniper-Class buoy tender homeported in Sitka, Alaska, have spent the last three weeks along the West Coast repairing and replacing buoys vital to safe navigation and the flow of commerce.

Maple is now near the Oregon coast in the area normally patrolled by the Coast Guard Cutter Fir, homeported in Astoria, Ore.
