Rohingya in Cambodia as Asylum Seekers

A brief statement of the Rohingya in Cambodia: Chris Lewa, founder and director of The Arakan Project visited Cambodia in 19 may 2010 and returned after three days.

(RANGOON Burma Times) - Rohingya Ibrahim shah – It is learnt accurately by our correspondent that about 32 Rohingya people in Cambodia are in dire situation who fled Burma desperately to escape discrimination of the Burmese Buddhist majority regime and finally reached there since 2010.

They are still out of refugee or asylum seeker status despite they pleaded many times to various NGOs, humanitarian organizations and UNHCR. In reiteration, many institutions interviewed them; however, in consequence it is in vain yet.

Several outbreaks of sectarian unrest in Myanmar have tempered international optimism about the country's dramatic political reforms as it emerges from decades of military rule.

(JAKARTA AFP) -  Bomb at Ekayana Buddhist Centre in Jakarta - AFP A bomb that exploded at a Buddhist temple in the Indonesian capital Jakarta bore the words "we are responding to the screams of the Rohingya", the place of worship said Monday.

It appeared to be the latest outburst of anger in Muslim-majority Indonesia at the plight of Rohingya Muslims, who have been fleeing in their thousands from sectarian violence in Myanmar, where most of the population is Buddhist.

Aceh Fishermen Rescue 68 Rohingya Asylum Seekers From Indian Ocean

The number of asylum seekers fleeing Myanmar has increased eight-fold in Indonesia’s Aceh province since 2009 as hard-line Buddhists launched a violent campaign targeting Myanmar’s Muslim minority.

(BANDA ACEH) - File photo of Rohingya boat people fleeing Myanmar Fishermen rescued a more than 60 Rohingya asylum seekers stranded in a boat off the coast of Aceh Jaya on Sunday — the third disabled Rohingya boat found floating in the Indian Ocean this year.

The 68 Rohingya — including a pregnant woman and two babies — told Aceh officials they boarded the boat after being threatened with deportation in Malaysia.
