Albany Bicyclist Killed Sunday

Investigators are not sure why the 65-year old Albany resident veered into the path of an oncoming car.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Albany Police car door logo An Albany woman was killed Sunday afternoon when she turned her bicycle into the path of a car on Seven Mile Lane near the intersection of Three Lakes Road south of Albany.

Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says that at approximately 2:50 PM Sunday, 65-year old Laneve Yvonne Johnson was traveling eastbound on Seven Mile Lane along with her husband, Barry Johnson, who was also on a bicycle.

Fire Consumes California Semi Trailer on Oregon Freeway Near Albany

Nobody was hurt when the trailer erupted in flames. Tangent Firefighter Dennis Weis captured the fire in a dramatic series of photographs.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Burning semi on I-5 in Oregon 8-14-7 by Dennis Weis Fire Departments from Tangent and Albany responded to a semi-trailer fire last night around 8:30 PM. The intense fire ultimately closed the northbound lanes of I-5 just south of Albany at MP 231.

When the 911 call over the truck trailer fire came in to the OSP Dispatch Center in Albany, it was reported that the fire may have started when the trailer's rear tandem brakes overheated.

Narcotics Search Warrant Leads to Arrests in Albany

Police say one man had a forged Social Security card and a forged Resident Alien card.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Albany Police say they seized narcotics and cash 72307 Detectives seized approximately 3/4 of an ounce of methamphetamine Friday around 10:00 PM, during the execution of a narcotics search warrant at 1805 SE Clay Street #4 in Albany.

They say they also found prescription medication, over $5,000 in U.S. currency, packaging material, scales, drug paraphernalia, surveillance equipment, and a laptop computer reported stolen from a vehicle in Albany in February 2007.

Two Teens Safe After Getting Lost Near Rooster Rock

Zachariah A. Beugli, age 18, and Tristan R. Propst, also 18, were located by deputies this morning at approximately 7:40 AM.

(SWEET HOME, Ore. ) - linn county sheriff photo Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller reports that two Albany teens were found safe this morning after spending the night lost in the Rooster Rock area east of Sweet Home.

Deputies, Search and Rescue Post members, a REACH helicopter and members of the Sheriff's Mounted Posse spent the night searching the rough terrain when the youth's parents reported they were overdue from a hiking trip.

Motorcycle Engine Fire Sparks Four Alarm Grass Fire Near Albany

The fire is now under control and Highway 20 has re-opened.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - An engine fire in a four-wheeler "quad" off-road vehicle sparked a four-alarm fire that burned about 200 acres of grass fields east of Albany Sunday afternoon, the Albany Fire Department reports.

The fire was reported at 3:02 PM in a field on Highway 20 near Harber Drive about three miles east of the Albany city limits. The call went to four alarms as winds shifted several times, fire officials said.

Crash on I-5 Leaves Keizer Woman Fatally Injured

Two small children survived, but the 19-year old woman driving the van has died from her injuries.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Crash scene on I-5 near Albany, Oregon A 19-year old Keizer woman died from injuries suffered in a two vehicle crash July 2nd, on Interstate 5 about ten miles south of Albany.

The Lane County Medical Examiner has notified Oregon State Police that Alicia D. Stefanek of Keizer, died July 3rd from injuries sustained in the crash.

River Rhythms Free Concert Series Lineup Set

This year's lineup includes Eddie Money, Curtis Salgado, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - Eddie Money photo Albany Parks & Recreation has announced the lineup for the 24th season of the River Rhythms concert series.

River Rhythms concerts take place on Thursdays at Monteith Riverpark in downtown Albany. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged.

Performances begin at 7:00 PM. The blanket seating area opens at 4:00 PM.

West Albany High School Senior Killed After Being Struck by Pickup

The driver, who was not injured in the crash, was identified as 53-year-old Randy Hillyer of Jefferson.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - fatal crash image On Wednesday, at approximately 7:59 PM, a male pedestrian was crossing southeast Santiam Road near Pacific Boulevard and was struck and killed by a small pickup.

The pedestrian was identified as 17-year-old Salvador Alcantar Sanchez.

Salvador was a senior at West Albany High School and was returning home from the Heritage Mall area when he was struck by the vehicle.

Albany Residents Reminded About City RV Parking Ordinance

Vehicles found parked illegally will be marked by Albany police and must be moved within 72 hours.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - motor home parking As the summer travel season approaches, the City of Albany is reminding city residents of laws that apply to where recreational vehicles or travel trailers may be parked.

City ordinances allow motor homes, travel trailers, boats, fifth-wheel trailers, and other recreational vehicles to be parked on public rights-of-way for up to 48 hours with the consent of the adjacent property owner.

Without that permission, vehicles may not be stored on the street for more than 24 hours.
