Old Man Winter Visits New Hampshire

Throughout the Northeast into tonight, bridges and overpasses will be the first to turn slick.

(HARRISVILLE, N.H.) - New Hampshire, Saturday night. The snow started here at 3:00 p.m. EST and I went out to measure it at exactly 8:30pm EST and we have exactly 13 inches. That is over 2 inches an hour and on October 29th. At this rate, we'll be snowbound by 6:00 a.m.

AccuWeather.com meteorologists are worried that many more could follow tonight. Temperatures dropping below freezing through tonight will allow the historic snowstorm to cover roadways throughout the Northeast much easier than during the daylight hours.

A new NASA advisory states: “The European Space Agency announced that its Herschel Space Observatory had found a huge donut-shaped cloud of water vapor encircling Saturn more than 373,000 miles across and about 37,000 miles thick..."

Oregon Department of Forestry Daily Fire Update for Friday, August 26, 2011

(Salem, Oregon) - Oregon active fires map This is the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) fire update for Friday, August 26, 2011.

Over the past 24 hours, lightning continued to move through Oregon, including systems through western Oregon, starting near Eugene, that moved northeast through Wasco County/Cascade crest, out of Oregon into central Washington, and then veering south into Oregon again into portions of Umatilla County. Precipitation accompanying this lightning was variable. More lightning and thunderstorms are in the weather forecasts for parts of Oregon from today through Sunday.

Before the lightning strikes gave way to thunder, we watched an aircraft fly in from the north to, it appeared, take a look.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem lightning strike Shortly after 3:00 a.m. today, Dexter Phoenix and I noticed a very strange weather occurrence that I suspect many Salem area residents heard from inside of their homes.

What we saw was a series of lightning strikes to the east, they were almost flashing in a consistent pattern, roughly every 20 seconds. I've absolutely never witnessed anything like it in my life.

Wildfire Still Threatening Los Alamos Nuclear Facility

The lab has announced that it will remain closed Wednesday.

(LOS ALAMOS, N.M. Accuweather) - Los Alamos fire AccuWeather.com reports the weather will remain troublesome for crews battling the wildfire threatening Los Alamos National Laboratory in northern New Mexico over the next few days.

Although an increase in humidity early Tuesday morning has been a short-term benefit, a storm system passing by to the north will kick up daily rounds of gusty winds through Thursday.
