Volcanic Eruption Sends Rocks Raining Down on Italy

Some rocks and ash can also fall from the sky much like rain, as they are sent into the atmosphere and can collect on clouds to be rained down with later precipitation.

(AccuWeather Global Weather Center) - Mt Etna volcanic ash AccuWeather.com reports Italy's Mt. Etna, the most active volcano in europe, erupted twice in less than a week earlier this month. The first eruption took place on Nov. 16, the second on Nov. 23.

Lava flows were reportedly shot 700-800 meters in the air. Lightning was also present during the explosion, as well as plumes of gas, smoke and ash.

NW Oregon-SW Washington Storm System: High Winds & Rain Are Coming

The National Weather Service says we have a wet & wild time ahead.

(SALEM, Ore.) - high water A vigorous storm system will give ample rainfall and windy conditions to southwest Washington and Northwest Oregon today and Tuesday, with cool night time low temperatures later this week.

A storm off the Oregon coast this morning will produce gales over the coastal waters this afternoon and evening, as well as wind gusts to near 60 mph along the beaches and headlands, and 45 to 50 mph in coastal communities.

Texas Correctional Officers Join Inmate`s Lawsuit Over Excessive Heat

(AUSTIN) - Overheated Texs prison The union that represents Texas' correctional officers will join the lawsuits filed over the heat related deaths of at least 14 inmates in the scorching state prisons.

The union has joined with the inmates demand that the Texas state prisons should be cooled to relieve unbearable conditions.

Brain-Eating Amoeba Case Linked to Warm Water, Drought

More than half of Arkansas, about 52 percent, is being gripped by moderate drought conditions, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor report.

(STATE COLLEGE, PA AccuWeather.com) - Regions of brain-eating qmoeba AccuWeather reports a 12-year-old girl contracted a rare infection caused by a brain-eating amoeba in Arkansas, and it may be tied to summer heat and drought conditions, according to the CDC.

The amoeba, or single-celled organism, that caused the infection is called Naegleria fowleri, which lives in warm freshwater, such as lakes, rivers and hot springs.
