(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Danielle Nierenberg in Senegal According to staggering new statistics from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), roughly one-third of the food produced worldwide for human consumption is lost or wasted, amounting to some 1.3 billion tons per year.

In the developing world, over 40 percent of food losses occur after harvest-while being stored or transported, and during processing and packing.

Bill approved to expand dental care to underserved communities

SB 738 will use pilot projects to treat more low-income, rural Oregonians.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon capitol The Oregon Senate approved legislation this morning that will expand access to dental services for underserved populations, such as low-income and rural Oregonians.

SB 738 allows qualified dental hygienists to provide essential dental hygiene services and creates a process for setting up pilot projects that will help expand access to dental care across the state.
