A Family of Firefighters at Ground Zero

We were all one family. Many of us had never met before, and most of us will never see each other again. But we came together when it counted most.

Another family I am a proud member of is the fire service, and on September 11th, my family experienced a loss that no family should ever have to endure.

Staff Hits the Road to Record Interviews and Footage for PTSD Documentary

The trip precedes the upcoming 500 Mile March for PTSD in September.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon Guard Captain Stephen Bomar is interviewed by Bonnie King while Tim mans the camera For the next ten days, Salem-News.com is on the road as we gather elements for our upcoming documentary on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

PTSD as it is commonly known, is a serious problem affecting hundreds of thousands of combat veterans and their families. A great deal of education needs to take place for all Americans on this subject.

Increased War Tempo in Afghanistan Leads to 8 Casualties in Two Days

The number #1 killer of Americans in this country, not surprisingly, is the IED, the improvised explosive device or roadside bomb.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com As the United States raises the stakes in Afghanistan, the government sends word of numerous casualties there. Extremely cold in the winter and baking hot in the summer, Afghanistan is a country with steep mountains and generally rough terrain.

Many wars have been fought here over the years, but none like the current one. U.S. forces are tasked with removing and eliminating threats posed by the Taliban and other anti-Coalition militia groups.

Oregon Police Agencies Participate in Special Olympics Torch Run (VIDEO)

The torch runners passed through Salem Wednesday.

(SALEM, Ore.) - runners Salem Police officers joined other law enforcement agencies from the local area for the "Flame of Hope" annual Law Enforcement Torch Run June 3rd. Officers joined state troopers and country deputies in running the torch over the twelve-mile course that wound through the Mid-Willamette Valley.

Salem Police officers received the torch from members of the Marion County Sheriff's Office at the Sunnyside/Turner Exit on Interstate 5 and ran the torch up Commercial Street, stopping at the Salem Civic Center for a brief ceremony.
