IHH Emergency Teams continue relief efforts in quake-stricken Van

Immediately after the quake, IHH aid teams rushed to the region to join search and rescue efforts.

(ISTANBUL) - Emergency teams of IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation continue relief efforts in Van’s Erciş district which was hit by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake on Sunday.

The aid teams which rushed to the area immediately after the quake took part in search and rescue efforts throughout the night. IHH Emergency Aid Coordinator Recep Güzel who is in the disaster region said there are still dozens of people under demolished buildings while noting that there is a problem of water shortage in the area.

Report: Turkish Prosecutor Seeks Interpol Notice for Flotilla Attackers

Eight Turks and a Turkish-American were killed aboard the Mavi Marmara, a Turkish ship that was part of an international humanitarian aid flotilla which tried to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza in May of last year.

(ISTANBUL) - Israeli war crime suspects İstanbul Public Prosecutor Mehmet Akif Ekinci, the prosecutor conducting the investigation into the deadly flotilla attack, had reportedly written to the Turkish Justice Ministry, requesting Interpol red notices for the 174 Israeli soldiers and commanders.

The report also said the İstanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office had earlier written to Israeli authorities requesting the full names and residential addresses of the military and government officials who gave the orders to attack the flotilla, in addition to information about those who carried out the orders.

Why Israel Can`t be `A Jewish State`

The Israeli demand to be recognised as a "Jewish state" by the Palestinians is an inherently problematic concept.

Of course, the Palestinians have clearly and repeatedly recognised the State of Israel as such in the 1993 Oslo Accords (which were based on an Israeli promise to establish a Palestinian state within five years - a promise now shattered) and many times since.

Recently, however, Israeli leaders have dramatically and unilaterally moved the goal-posts and are now clamouring that Palestinians must recognise Israel as a "Jewish State".

Report: Turkey Navy to Escort Aid Ships to Palestinians in Gaza

(TEL AVIV) - Turkish Navy The Turkish navy will significantly strengthen its presence in the eastern Mediterranean Sea as one of the steps the Turkish government has decided to take following the release of the UN Palmer report on the 2010 Gaza flotilla, Turkish officials told the Hurriyet Daily News.

"The eastern Mediterranean will no longer be a place where Israeli naval forces can freely exercise their bullying practices against civilian vessels," a Turkish official was quoted as saying.

Ankara asks Gaza flotilla to wait, but İHH says it will not

A battle of words between the ruling and opposition parties over Israel is getting extended everyday with both parties’ accusing each other of spoiling ties with the country.

(ANKARA) - Mavi Marmara Ankara has advised the international aid flotilla to Gaza that is planning to depart for Gaza in late June to reconsider its plans and postpone their activity to avoid a repetition of last year’s crisis.

Flotilla organizers, however, said it was unlikely to postpone the activity under the current conditions.
