Railroad History Recalled at Antique Powerland Great Oregon Steam-Up

The former engineer became a very active member of the Willow Creek Railroad at Antique Powerland in Brooks because he needed a place to run the model engines he built while living in Napa Valley.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Scale train engineer giving kids a ride History is lived by men, and Ralph Jenkins of Stayton is one of those who is part of it. "I loved railroading since I was a baby," he said.

"I was lucky to get on after high school." Jenkins started working for the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1951 as a fireman after graduating from high school in San Francisco: "It was the first big job I ever had."

Four Reported Dead in Washington D.C. Train Crash (VIDEO)

Officials say the fatality is the second in Metrorail’s 33-year history.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Crashed trains in Washington D.C. Officials in the nation's capitol city say two six-car Red Line trains collided at 5:00 p.m. today, resulting in two fatalities. One of the people who died is the female train operator. There were also several injuries, many serious, according to preliminary reports.

Metro officials do not know the cause of the collision and are not likely to know the cause for several days as the investigation unfolds. Both trains were on the same track headed toward Shady Grove Metrorail station, according to preliminary reports. The female operator was on the trailing train.

Texting to Death? (VIDEO)

25 people were recently added to the list of those killed as a result of phone texting.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Woman texting What are the electronic manufacturers and marketing guru's trying to do to our fair society? Weren't things bad enough before texting became the unexplainable phenomena that it is?

I was driving down the freeway last week in Portland and when I looked at the BMW in the lane to my immediate right, I saw that the driver was busy texting away without an eye on the road. I'm sure this driver has no ill will toward the world, but if he hit somebody and killed them, would it be any different from a DUII?

Small Boy Falls From Railroad Bridge in Washington

Clark County Sheriff's Office investigates fall from train bridge involving a 4-year old child‏.

(BATTLE GROUND, Wash.) - Railroad tracks A small boy was severely injured this morning in the Battle Ground area when he fell from a railroad bridge, approximately 30 feet to the ground.

Sgt. Mike Cooke with the Clark County Sheriff's Office, says deputies and Fire District 3 personnel responded to a residence in the Battle Ground area of Clark County at 7:40 a.m. on the report of a seriously injured 4-year old boy.

Officials Identify Woodland Teens Killed in Train Accident

The two apparently didn't hear the Amtrak train blow it's whistle.

(KELSO, Wash.) - Katie Blacklaw and Eddie Denson 15-year old Edward "Eddie" Denson and 15-year old Katelen "Katie" Blacklaw, both of Woodland, have been identified by Cowlitz County Coroner Tim Davidson as the teens killed by an Amtrak train Tuesday evening.

Two Teens Die in Woodland Train-Pedestrian Accident (UPDATE)

It is speculated that the two teens were unable to hear the approaching Amtrak because of the sound of a freight train.

(WOODLAND, Wash.) - Train tracks Cowlitz County Sheriff's deputies are investigating the deaths of two teenagers who were struck by an Amtrak train in the south part of Woodland.

Amtrak officials reported that a northbound passenger train had struck two individuals who were standing on the tracks, about a 1/2 mile south of the Davidson Street crossing, at approximately 7:10 p.m.

Car Struck by Train in Clackamas County Near Canemah (PHOTOS)

The man was not trapped, and Clackamas Fire crews were able to assist him out of the vehicle and onto a backboard.

(CANEMAH, Ore.) - Car versus train crash It sounds like a frustrating experience. A 78-year old man somehow got his car stuck on the railroad track that passes through Canemah, which is south of Oregon City along Hwy 99.

Around 7:24 p.m., the man's car was struck by a train as he sat at the wheel, according to Steve McAdoo with Clackamas Fire District #1.

Hillsboro Police Investigate Car Vs. Max Train Crash‏

The male driver of the car suffered serious injuries and was transported to OHSU via lifeflight and was taken into surgery.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - TriMet Max bus Hillsboro Police say a motor vehicle collided with a tri-met train at 10th and Washington streets in Hillsboro Saturday night, at approximately 7:16 PM.

Lt. Michael Rouches with Hillsboro Police says the driver of a 1996 Mercedes Benz sedan was traveling northbound on 10th street and was struck by the westbound train.

"Preliminary investigation reveals that the automobile may have failed to stop for a red traffic signal," Rouches said.

Fiery Crash Involving Car and Train Leave Two Dead

One occupant narrowly escaped being hit by the train, while two perished.

(CANBY, Ore.) - Salem-News.com An Amtrak train struck a car Friday night at the Canby intersection of NE 4th Ave and Hwy 99E, at about 10:20 PM. The vehicle erupted in flames upon impact, and was pushed nearly 1450 feet down the train tracks, burning the entire time.
