Winter Storm Warning: Northern Oregon Cascades

Warning has been extended

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - winter storm warning Travel will be very difficult to impossible, especially over the passes. Gusty winds combined with heavy snowfall rates may cause white-out conditions at times.

Heavy snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of 12 to 24 inches expected. In addition, easterly winds may gust to 35 mph at times.

Oregon Snow Covered Highways and Byways

Highway status as of 3 p.m.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Salem-News.com I-5 traffic northbound is moving again at the MP 172 back-up, south of Cottage Grove. ODOT and utility crews are working to remove downed line across the southbound lanes. No ETO but it should be soon.

U.S. 101 is closed at MP 343, 12 miles north of Brookings due to sunken grade. No ETO. No detour.
Power is still out in much of Roseburg/Douglas County area.

Winter Storm Warning: Heavy Snow Predicted for Oregon Highways

ODOT snow removal teams are on a 24/7 work status across the state.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - winter storm warning Weather forecasters are predicting tougher than normal driving conditions across central and northern Oregon highways between now and Tuesday, February 26. Heavy snow is expected, especially above 1500 to 2000 feet, now through late Monday night.

Central Oregon is currently predicted to receive the greater snowfall, but Interstate 84 through the Columbia Gorge is also expected to receive significant snowfall. Snow accumulations in the Northern Oregon Cascade Foothills and Northern Oregon Cascades of 10 to 20 inches is expected tonight through Sunday, though accumulations will be less below 2000 feet.

Tree Blocks Hwy on Humbug Mountain

Expect the unexpected throughout winter months

(U.S. 101, MP 307) - humbug mountain Just south of Port Orford, at 6:36 p.m. Thursday, the Humbug Mountain corridor highway became blocked by a large tree that fell across the highway.

ODOT removed the tree estimated at 6 feet in diameter, 60 feet tall.

Salem Woman Killed by Train (UPDATED)

The investigation into this fatal tragedy continues.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Train fatal On Thursday, December 27, 2018 at approximately 2:20 pm, Salem Police officers responded to the area of Marion St NE and 12th St NE on the report of an adult female being struck by a southbound Union Pacific freight train.

The victim, identified as 46-year old Michelle Manis, of Salem, was found deceased at the scene.

Log Train Derailment Closes Numerous Streets in Salem

(SALEM, Ore.) - log train derailed At approximately 8:45 pm Tuesday, a northbound log train derailed in Salem, near Front St NE and Hood St NE. No hazardous materials were no board.

The derailment has closed numerous streets and those streets may remained closed into the morning, affecting the morning commute.

Cleanup Efforts Continuing along Hwy 38 After Fatal Crash

A 2012 Kenworth truck towing double fuel tanks struck a large black cow standing in the road, then lost control, went off the road and struck a power pole.

(SCOTTSBURG, Ore.) - fatal crash The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality continues to oversee cleanup and monitoring near the site of an Oct. 22 truck crash and fuel release on Oregon 38.

The truck was carrying around 7,500 gallons of gasoline and 2,500 gallons of diesel when it crashed.

ODOT Closes Old McKenzie Pass Highway

Predicted snow causes this Seasonal Closure

(BEND, Ore.) - OR Hwy 242 closed With snow in the Oregon Cascades predicted over the next week, maintenance managers with the Oregon Department of Transportation have made the decision to close the Old McKenzie Pass Highway (OR 242), for the winter/snow season effective Monday, November 5 at dawn.

It will reopen in Summer 2019, when the snows have melted and travel is again safe on the old highway.

Aurora Man in Custody after Hit and Run Crash with School Bus

There were 20 children on the bus at the time of the crash.

(DONALD, Ore.) - school bus crash According to Deputies, the preliminary investigation revealed that the Peterbuilt truck operated by 49-year old Timothy Brown, of Sheridan, was traveling west on Ehlen Rd NE. As Brown approached the intersection with Butteville Rd NE, a black SUV driving eastbound made a left hand turn in front of him.

Brown hit the SUV at approximately 55 mph causing it to spin and crash into the left front portion of the school bus that was sitting at the stop sign, waiting to turn.
