Mr. Selvakumar was taken into custody shortly after a number of Tamil youths (none of whom had committed any crimes) were arrested and tortured by the police in the Matale district.

(HONG KONG) - Last month, a team of 16 police officers reportedly from Basirhat Police Station, raided a family home at 2:30 a.m. without a warrant or proper authority.

In November 2010, the Health Ministry issued a regulation that legitimizes the practice of female genital mutilation.

(JAKARTA, Indonesia) - To mark International Women’s Day on Thursday, human rights watchdog Amnesty International is called on the Indonesian government to repeal a 2010 government regulation permitting “female circumcision”.

The London-based organization also suggested that authorities help eliminate the practice by enacting specific legislation with appropriate penalties prohibiting all forms of female genital mutilation.
