Sign Post Pierces Windshield, Injuring Passenger on Highway 18

Two people were both transported to Willamette Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

(SHERIDAN, Ore.) - Ice crash near Sheridan, Oregon 12-27-07 Police say two Milwaukie-area residents were lucky Wednesday night after losing control of the sport utility vehicle on an icy stretch of Highway 18 west of Sheridan. Their vehicle struck a sign post that came through the windshield and struck the passenger.

Police say the crash was one of about a dozen non-injury police responded to Wednesday night during icy conditions in the area.

Senator Calls HB 5048 An Affront to Oregon Public Records Laws

"One ten page document request from the City of Sheridan was claimed to create four hours of staff time at $25 per hour, plus a 10 cents a page charge. The total for the request: $101." Senator Gary George

(SALEM ) - Oregon capitol State Sen. Gary George (R-Newberg) is decrying the lack of compliance by some state agencies with Oregon's Public Records laws. The latest affront comes in an “agency bill” introduced to the legislature directly by the Oregon Dept. of Transportation.

Under Oregon's Revised Statutes Chapter 192, government officials at any level of government in Oregon are required to allow public access to most records, as well as for citizens to obtain copies at reasonable rates.

Patch of Ice Leads to Fatal Wreck

Drivers need to slow down as winter temperatures remain at or below freezing.

(SHERIDAN) - Photo of crash scene on Highway 18 Investigators say a patch of ice led to a fatal crash on Highway 18 Friday evening about three miles east of Sheridan. The 6:40 PM crash involved two vehicles and claimed the life of a 21-year old St. Paul woman.

Oregon State Police troopers say it appears that a westbound 2005 Honda Accord lost control on a patch of ice and slid into the path of an eastbound 1988 Ford pickup truck.

The operator of the Honda, 21-year old Rebecca A. Morrow of St. Paul was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheridan Family of Five Receiving Red Cross Support After Fire Destroys Home

One family dog was lost in the blaze.

(SHERIDAN) - Fire art A Sheridan family of five are receiving Red Cross support after an overnight fire destroyed their home on SE Sheridan Road.

An observant neighbor woke the head of household shortly after the fire started at around 10:30 PM Saturday night.

Multiple Stabbing in Sheridan

(SHERIDAN) - stabbing investigation Deputies in Yamhill County responded to a report of a stabbing early Saturday morning at the Green Frog Restaurant and Lounge in Sheridan, Oregon and found two victims stabbed as a result of an argument.

They say John Hillebrand was taken by Life Flight to OHSU where he underwent emergency surgery for wounds sustained in the assault.

James B. Kinslow, the other man involved, was taken to the Willamette Valley Medical center where he was treated and released for minor stab wounds also sustained in the assault.

Yamhill County Sheriff Jack Crabtree says deputies immediately located 37-year old Brian Martin Weant at the scene. He was arrested and later booked into the Yamhill County Jail on one count of Assault I, a measure 11 crime, he is lodged in lieu of $150,000 bail.

Homeowners Get Their Wish, Sex Offenders Must Leave Halfway House

Angry neighbors cause the county to back off from a plan they had already agreed with.

(SHERIDAN) - Yamhill County Sherrif badge A halfway house for sex offenders opened in Sheridan earlier this month. But because the mobile home drew so much community opposition, a Yamhill County sheriff's department official says it will now close.

The house, operated by Stepping Out Ministries, which operates two similar facilities in Salem. In Sheridan, west of McMinnville, it had a triple-wide mobile home.

Lt. Ken Summers says it's not going to work for them in that home, adding that the five men will be gone shortly.
