(SIMFEROPOL, Ukraine) - In January 2011 we will observe the 75th anniversary of Simferopol airport. Its history began 21 January 1936, when it was decided by the of Council of people commissars of Crimean Authonomy to create flying field to the north of Simpferopol.

Thus a place was chosen obviously not by chance - latitude sharply 450 N, longitude 340 E. The opening of the first airline route between Simferopol and Moscow took place in May, 1936.

This line circles the earth, it also divides Crimea into two parts, across the Simferopol. It is interesting that the two sister cities of Simferopol – Kechkemet in Hungary and Salem, Oregon in the U.S., are also situated on the 45th parallel.
