OSU Geologist Forewarned of Enormous Destructive Potential of Haiti Quake

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - An international earthquake expert at OSU suggested just over one week ago that one of the world’s most at-risk locations for a major, destructive earthquake is the fault that runs through Haiti and near Port-au-Prince.

That comment was made during an interview with a reporter for Scientific American, by geologist Robert Yeats, a professor emeritus who said the death toll would be tremendous.

Haiti`s Devastation

The world’s natural concern for others has been noticed and is worthy of admiration, especially in Haiti, where people exist more as a happening than as a government for and of the people.

(ASTORIA, Ore.) - The Coast Guard, Curry County Sheriff's Department and Oregon State Police are searching for a man spotted near River Mile 8 in the Rogue River Friday.

Two witnesses reported seeing the man waving a shiny object while clinging to a log in the debris-choked river at approximately 2:30 p.m., according to a statement issued by the U.S. Coast Guard.
