OSU Geologist Forewarned of Enormous Destructive Potential of Haiti Quake

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Ggeologist Robert Yeats, a professor emeritus at Oregon State University An international earthquake expert at OSU suggested just over one week ago that one of the world’s most at-risk locations for a major, destructive earthquake is the fault that runs through Haiti and near Port-au-Prince.

That comment was made during an interview with a reporter for Scientific American, by geologist Robert Yeats, a professor emeritus who said the death toll would be tremendous.

Haiti`s Devastation

The world’s natural concern for others has been noticed and is worthy of admiration, especially in Haiti, where people exist more as a happening than as a government for and of the people.

(PASO ROBLES, Calif.) - UN soldiers help evacuate the injured. The devastation in Haiti and the nature of the people is such that - without a workable government of their own - chaos appears to me to be the order of the day for the foreseeable future.

The UN launched a flash appeal for some $550 million this afternoon.

Crane Used to Rescue Injured Construction Worker in Forest Grove

Forest Grove firefighters worked with the injured man's fellow construction workers, who used their crane to deliver him to safety.

(FOREST GROVE, Ore.) - Rescue in Forest Grove, Oregon 1-11-10 Firefighters in Forest Grove responded to the Fernhill Waste Water Treatment Plant job site today, where a man had fallen 25 feet, landing on concrete.

Firefighters received the call about the injured private contractor at approximately 2:51 p.m., according to David Nemeyer with Forest Grove Fire.

Search Launched for Missing Man in Rogue River

Coast Guard, local agencies searching for man spotted in trouble in 48F-50F degree water.

(ASTORIA, Ore.) - Coast Guard helicopter The Coast Guard, Curry County Sheriff's Department and Oregon State Police are searching for a man spotted near River Mile 8 in the Rogue River Friday.

Two witnesses reported seeing the man waving a shiny object while clinging to a log in the debris-choked river at approximately 2:30 p.m., according to a statement issued by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Suspends search for missing climbers.

(MT. HOOD. Ore.) - Katie Nolan and Anthony Vietti remain missing on Mt. Hood. The search for two missing climbers on Mount Hood is over. The information was released today by Det. Jim Strovink with the Clackamas Sheriff's Office.

"The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, announces with profound sadness the necessity to suspend the ongoing Search and Rescue mission conducted on Mount Hood, in Clackamas County."
