Oregon Guard Helicopter Supports Rescue in Lane County

The Air Guard helicopter launching to aid in the rescue is based in Salem, Oregon.

(SALEM) - helicopter The Oregon Army National Guard is preparing to launch a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter in support of a rescue in Lane County.

A hiker with a possible dislocated knee who may be going into shock could require evacuation by hoist - an operation in which a rescuer is lowered from the helicopter by cable to stabilize a patient for extraction.

Rescue crews say the hiker is in the Waldo Lake area of Lane County. The Lane County Sheriff's office is the lead agency for the rescue.

Missing Man Found Safe on Santiam River Near Jefferson

A good story in the mix of several recent drowning tragedies, this 24-year old man opted for safety.

(JEFFERSON) - Santiam River A 24-year old Albany man is safe and sound after spending an evening stranded on a riverbank.

Elaine Parrott with Jefferson Fire says it began at approximately 6:30 PM Monday, when four adults began a downriver float at Green Bridge Rd. and Jefferson Scio Rd. east of Jefferson.

"They were floating down the river on inner tubes but were not wearing life jackets. Just before the confluence of the north and south Santiam River, the water became too shallow and the party walked a short ways and got back in the river."

Coast Guard Rescues Salem Girl From Cliff

(LINCOLN CITY) - Coast Guard helicopter The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a 16-year-old girl from a cliff near Lincoln City around 4:00 PM Sunday.

Coast Guard Air Facility Newport launched an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter after receiving a call that a girl had become stranded near the top of a cliff in the vicinity of Lincoln City.

Coast Guard officials say the girl, who is from Salem, had climbed about two-thirds of the way up a 150-foot cliff before she realized she couldn't go any further and couldn't figure out how to get back down.

Guard Helicopter Crew From Salem Rescue Missing Man

(SALEM) - Guard pilot running toward his Blackhawk on a rescue mission earlier in 2006 An Oregon Army National Guard helicopter crew found a man missing in the Banks area since Thursday and transported him to a hospital Friday morning for medical care.

The Guard launched a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter to aid the Washington County Sheriff's office in the search for the man who was believed to have suffered a stroke.

Beachgoers Swept Into The Ocean Keep Rescuers Busy

(Lincoln Beach) - The ocean along the Oregon coast can be extremely dangerous, and the beach may the last place you want to be. Photo By: Tim King Water rescue operations were in full swing Wednesday on the central Oregon coast. A major storm slammed the coast with fury. Depoe Bay Fire District Chief Ron Smith says it was not a good day for a walk on the beach, "There are very rough conditions today, about twenty to twenty five foot surf.` He says beachgoers should stay clear on days like this.
