Oregon Company Announces Smoked Ham Recall

As of Sunday, there have been no reports of illnesses from consumption of the product.

(PENDLETON) - Salem-News.com Hill Meat Co. based in Pendleton, is voluntarily recalling approximately 1,080 pounds of smoked ham due to possible under processing, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Sunday.

The following product is subject to recall:

Nine-pound vacuum-sealed packages of "HILL MEAT COMPANY, OUR PREMIUM BLACK FOREST, FULLY COOKED SMOKED HAM, WITH NATURAL JUICES." Each label bears the establishment number, "EST. 9201" inside the USDA mark of inspection and the "Sell-by" date "032607." Each case bears the code "32503" or "32505."

The hams were produced on December 22nd, 2006 and were shipped to retail establishments and institutions in northern California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

Smoke From Fires in Cascades May Cause Potential Health Impacts in Northeastern Oregon

“When wildfire smoke gets to unhealthy for sensitive group levels, children, the elderly and those with respiratory conditions should take measures to limit their outdoor activities,” - DEQ Air Quality Manager, Linda Hayes-Gorman.

(PENDLETON) - smoke Wildfire smoke concentrations in Enterprise, La Grande, Baker City, Pendleton and adjacent areas of Northeastern Oregon from fires in the Cascades eastward reached the moderate level today, just outside the “good” category, on the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality’s Wildfire Air Quality Rating Scale (WAQR).

DEQ reminds area residents – especially those individuals who may be sensitive to smoke – that there are precautions they can take to mitigate breathing problems or other symptoms from smoke.

Additionally, there are helpful Web-related tools available that may help individuals determine when to take protective measures.
