All Oregon Parks Reserved Camp Sites Gone For Memorial Day Weekend

(SALEM) - boat launch The dash to reserve a state park campsite for Memorial Day weekend is over.

According to Reservations Northwest, the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department's campsite reservations center, all sites at the 28 parks that accept reservations are booked for the three-day period.

However, 22 other state parks have sites available on first-come, first-served terms in every area of Oregon.

"Some pretty good options still exist out there," said OPRD Recreation Programs Manager Richard Walkoski.

Grant for Old Salem Railroad Bridge Approved

(SALEM) - Union Street Railroad Bridge Salem Oregon The City of Salem has received word that its grant request to the Recreational Trails Program for $97,000 for the Union Street Railroad Bridge project has been approved for funding.

Recreational Trails Program funds, which are passed through to the states by the Federal Highway Administration for development and repair of trails and trail-supporting facilities, are administered in this state by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

Geer Park Dedication Ceremony April 29th

(SALEM) - Geer Park while under construction The official dedication of the Geer Community Park is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 29th.

The new 46 acre community park is located at 2605 State Street, west of Hawthorne Avenue, and was leased to the City of Salem by the State of Oregon for $1 per year to provide a community park primarily devoted to organized activities for Salem`s youth.

The first phase of the park includes: an entry road off of State Street, two soccer fields, two 90` baseball fields, restroom facilities, a maintenance building, and pedestrian pathways.

Salem`s Newest Park Named After Geer Family

Early Oregon Governor is remembered.

(SALEM) - Oregon Governor Theodore Geer 1899 The Salem City Council voted unanimously Monday night to name Salem`s newest park after the pioneer Geer family.

The 26-acre park, located on State Street and Hawthorne Avenue is set to open next month and features two baseball and soccer fields. A decommissioned railroad line known as the Geer Line runs along the parks property.

Theodore Thurston Geer served as Oregon`s governor from 1899 to 1903.

Salem Receives Money to Develop, Improve City Parks

City parks staff plans to continue to look for alternate revenue sources to complete needed projects throughout the city park system

(SALEM) - park scene The City of Salem has received a $155,000 Community Development Block Grant for the improvement of Northgate Park, located at 3260 Northgate Street N. T

The city`s Urban Development Department administers the CDBG program through funding from the Federal Housing and Urban Development Department.

Park improvements will include the installation of safety lighting, walking trails, picnic tables, an irrigated soccer field, a baseball diamond, and ADA accessibility to the playground area.

City of Salem, Lincoln, Tillamook Counties Seeking State Marine Board, ODFW Grants

River debris, wear-and-tear have taken it’s toll on the boat launch area at Wallace Marine Park in West Salem

(SALEM) - The Willamette River in Salem, Oregon The City of Salem is seeking a grant from the Oregon State Marine Board and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for improvements to the boat launch area at Wallace Marine Park.

The floats are hit hard by floating debris during high water periods.

Seasonal State Park Campgrounds Now Open

(Salem) - Park scene State park campgrounds at Detroit Lake, Joseph Stewart, Clyde Holliday, Oswald West and Saddle Mountain are now open for the 2006 season.

The campgrounds are the first of nine Oregon Parks and Recreation Department seasonal operations to open their gates this month.

Marys Peak Offers Great Winter Family Fun

For the remainder of this winter season recreation passes will NOT be required at Marys Peak. Passes will again be required when the gate re-opens in the spring.
