Oregon State Football Fall Camp Notes Day #3

In the first three days of practice cornerback Naji Patrick has shown a knack for generating big plays.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State Football Day 3 of fall camp arrived on Wednesday and brought with it shoulder pads and a lot more physicality.

The Beavers lined up for 11-on-11 drills for the first time and the big fellas along both sides of the line looked like they’ve been aching to hit someone for quite a while. Gavin Andrews in particular looked as if he planned to hit everyone in a black jersey.

After a long offseason, the players were happy to have a chance to get back on the field together.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State QB Sean Mannion The preseason national honors continue for Oregon State record setting quarterback Sean Mannion. The senior has been added to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Watch List, it was announced by the Golden Arm Foundation of Baltimore.

Mannion is already on the preliminary watch lists for the Walter Camp, Davey O’Brien and Maxwell honors.

Beavers Gibson, Puerto Rico Take Silver at Centrobasket

By virtue of Puerto Rico’s second-place finish, it qualified for both the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship for Women.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State senior guard Ali Gibson Oregon State senior guard Ali Gibson took home silver as a member of the Puerto Rican National Team at the recently completed FIBA Americas Centrobasket Femenino, which wrapped up on Saturday in Monterrey, Mexico.

In five games, Gibson was Puerto Rico’s third-leading scorer, averaging 8.4 points while also contributing 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 steals.

(OAK RIDGE, Tenn. ) - OSU Rowing Two members of the Oregon State women’s rowing team raced at the U.S. Club Nationals at Oak Ridge, Tenn. last weekend.

Former OSU rower Tina Vernazza, who will be an undergraduate coach this season, and rising senior Saasha Bruce each won gold medals racing for the Vesper Boat Club.

Master Food Preservers answered 2,262 calls during the 2013 summer season.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Master Food Preserver The Oregon State University Extension Service's food preservation and safety hotline will help Oregonians safely can and preserve their garden's abundance again this summer.

The hotline remains a useful resource for food safety information even in the Internet age, said Nellie Oehler, a faculty member with the OSU Extension Service's Family and Community Health program and Master Food Preserver coordinator in Lane County.

Oregon State Names New Women`s Golf Coach

Chergo launched the University of Denver’s women’s golf program and turned it into a perennial nationally-ranked team.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State Golf Catherine “Sammie” Chergo (pronounced Cher-go), who was the head women’s golf coach at the University of Denver from 1998-2013 and qualified to the NCAA Tournament 11 times, will lead the Oregon State women’s golf program as head coach, OSU Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis announced Friday.

“We were fortunate to have an exceptional pool of candidates for our vacancy; Sammie quickly rose to the top,” De Carolis said.
