Road Bandits Kidnap and Rob Man in Rural Marion County

Investigators say the suspects posed as police officers to get the driver to stop.

(SALEM) - A 28-year old man from Woodburn says he was kidnapped Saturday night by men who flagged him down while using a badge and claiming to be police officers. It happened around 8:20 PM at Butteville Road and Crosby Road NE in rural Marion County.

The man told Marion County Sheriff’s Office investigators that two to three unknown Hispanic men took him and his vehicle from the location off Butteville Road...

Oregon County Fairs Taking Precautions Against Avian Flu (AUDIO)

Experts say precautions are necessary to ensure safety, one of the primary things is for people to wash hands after any contact with animals.

(SALEM) - Avian flu Oregon’s county fair season kicks-off this week, and state officials are taking precautions to protect animals and the public from Avian Influenza.

With Avian Flu affecting other parts of the world, and fears that it may soon spread to the U.S., the Oregon Department of Agricultures key safety concept for county fairs this summer is bio-security.

State Veterinarian Dr. Don Hansen says ODA will be asking exhibitors for permission to examine poultry.

Marion County Fair This Weekend

It's that time of year again, the Marion County Fair kicks off this's event with entertainment, agriculture, and a long list of fun activities for the entire family.

(SALEM) - The 2006 Marion County Fair will delight all ages with more events and activities than ever before. The fair will be held July 13th-16th on the Oregon State Fairgrounds.

Car buffs are invited to show the custom cars, hot rods and special interest cars a the Cruise In, sponsored by South Commercial Auto Sales, at the fair on Sunday, July 16th, from noon to 4:00 PM.

Be Aware! Salem Area Road Construction Report (AUDIO)

Be prepared for your Salem-area commute with our daily, and weekend Salem-area road construction reports, heard exclusively on Salem-News.com.

(SALEM) - Beginning Sunday night. Drivers need to watch for lane closures on Lockhaven Drive as crews pave the street near Keizer Station.

The work is a continuation of a project to revamp, widen and improve the road.

Crews will overlay Lockhaven from west of the railroad tracks to McLeod Lane NE, and continuing through to Klicitat Drive during evening hours.

The work began Sunday and should be completed by Wednesday morning.

Marion County Fair is Dog-Gone great with Muddy Paws A-Flyin`

(SALEM) - As many as 100 dogs and their owners from the group Muddy Paws A-Flyin' will compete in flyball on Saturday, July 15th, from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM at the Marion County Fair on the State Fairgrounds in Salem.

"Flyball is the fastest paced dog sport there is. You can see how much fun these dogs are having just by looking and by listening to them," says Ed Clarkson, Muddy Paws representative. "There's very little that can compare with this style of head-to-head racing. Some races are won by hundredths, even thousandths of a second."

Flyball is a relay race with four dogs per team. The course consists of a starting line, four hurdles spaced ten feet apart, and a spring-loaded box. Each dog jumps the hurdles and steps on the box causing it to shoot out a tennis ball. The dog catches that tennis ball and then runs back over the four hurdles.

Marion County Sheriff`s Office Holding Crop-A-Cop Event

Sheriff’s office employees have volunteered their long hair, in honor of the daughter of one of their own, who is battling Leukemia.

(SALEM) - Maddie Melgard The Marion County Sheriff’s Office will be holding a Crop-A-Cop event to benefit Dornbecher Children’s Hospital on Thursday.

Marion County Sheriff’s spokesman Kevin Rau says on May 11th, 2006, 7-year-old Madison “Maddie” Melgard, daughter of Marion County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Melgard and Laurie Phelps, was diagnosed with Leukemia.

Marion County Fair Advance Tickets Now on Sale

(SALEM) - Advance tickets for the Marion County Fair are on sale now for carnival rides and admission.

Advance tickets for one-day unlimited carnival rides can be purchased for $15 through July 12th. Tickets will be $20 when purchased during the fair.

Family tickets can also be purchased in advance through July 12 for $12. A family of two adults and up to four children ages 6 through 11 can get a family ticket. Children five years old or younger are free every day. Family tickets will sell for $16 at the gate during the fair.

Man Arrested For Stealing Metal From Marion County Farm

Since January there have been approximately 75 reported thefts made to the Sheriff’s Office involving farm/nursery equipment which is believed to have been stolen for the purpose of selling as scrap metal for money.

(WOODBURN) - Marion County Sheriff`s Office detectives have made one arrest involving the theft of aluminum molding, valued at $4,500, from a farmer who resides on Howell Prairie Road NE, near Woodburn.

The theft had been reported on February 23rd.

On Tuesday, 24-year-old Michael David Bauman was arrested without incident at a Woodburn area business.

Bauman was booked at the Marion County Jail for Theft First Degree, and Conspiracy to Commit Theft

Lt. Bob Stai says during the course of the investigation, investigators learned the stolen articles had been scraped at a Salem area scrap metal recycling company.

DEQ Awards $10,000 Grant to Marion County For Thermostat Collection Program

The collection program will begin this fall.

(SALEM) - The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has awarded a $10,000 household hazardous waste grant to Marion County, which will work with the Oregon Environmental Council to collect mercury-containing thermostats locally.

Marion County and Portland General Electric are providing $10,000 and $5,000 in matching monies, respectively.

Through the pilot project, the county will contract with OEC to encourage homeowners throughout the county to replace their mercury-containing thermostats with more efficient digital thermostats, and to return their used mercury thermostats to Lowe`s home improvement stores in Marion County.

Radio Disney Bringing Entertainment, Games, Prizes to Marion County Fair

(SALEM) - Radio Disney will bring performances from "High School Musical," games, stories and the Lightning McQueen car from the movie `CARS` to the Marion County Fair on Saturday, July 15th.

From noon to 3:00 PM, there will be lots of entertainment and activity for youngsters.

RD Frequency will give two performances from "High School Musical." There will be games to play, and Reading with Radio Disney will include stories such as "Lilo & Stitch," "101 Dalmatians" and "Pocahontas."
