Another U.S. Army Soldier From Oregon Killed in Iraq

Pfc. Ryan J. Hill becomes the 49th soldier with Oregon ties to have died in the Iraq war.

(KEIZER) - Pfc. Ryan J. Hill Twenty-year old Army Pfc. Ryan J. Hill, of Keizer was killed in Baghdad Saturday the Department of Defense announced late Tuesday.

Hill died of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee.

Also on Saturday, Sgt. Sean Patrick Fennerty, of Portland, was killed in action while conducting combat operations against Anti-Iraqi forces in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq.

Salem, Keizer, Woodburn Businesses Agree to Liquor Violation Settlements

If the business fail to pay the fines, each face stiff liquor license suspensions.

(SALEM) - Salem, Keizer, Woodburn and Adair Village businesses have agreed to pay fines to the Oregon Oregon Liquor Control Commission for liquor law violations.

Under a stipulated settlement with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, the licensee for Rack N’ Cue 1970 Lancaster Dr. NE #125, agreed to pay a $3,465 civil penalty by Jan. 26th or begin serving a 21-day license suspension Jan. 31st for a liquor law violation.

The OLCC says the licensee failed to maintain liquor liability insurance or a minimum $300,000 corporate surety bond, in accordance with OAR 845-005-0400(1).

Keizer Fire District Sets Record For Calls For Service in 2006

Only one fatality from a house fire was recorded in 2006.

(KEIZER) - Keizer Fire logo The Keizer Fire District responded to a record number of calls for emergency services in 2006.

The District responded to a total of 3,404 calls for service during the year, which compares to 3,320 calls for service in 2005.

The increase marks the ninth straight year, and the 12th year in the last 14 years, the District has seen an increase in emergency responses.

Two Salem-Keizer Charter Schools Accepting Applications For Enrollment

Charter schools are required by law to be open to all students across the district, which means that students from other areas of Salem-Keizer may also apply and get drawn in the lottery.

(SALEM) - The process to apply for admission to Howard Street Charter School is under way.

Applications are being accepted now through March 2nd.

At Forest Ridge, there is both a traditional school and charter school.

Starting on January 16th, parents may submit applications for their child to be in the lottery for the charter school for next year.

Once a child is in the charter they remain in the charter unless they move or withdraw.

Keizer Man Arrested and One Wanted In Attempted Murder

Hernandez allegedly threatened both victims.

(KEIZER) - Quintin Smith On Saturday, December 30th at 5:08 AM officers from the Keizer Police Department responded to 4119 River Road North on a report of an armed person who had threatened to kill someone.

When officers arrived, they learned that the armed suspect was still inside the apartment, as were the victims, and they requested the Salem Police Department respond to assist.

13 Salem School Busses Burned in 2-Alarm Fire (UPDATE)

12/18/2006 10:30 AM Update: Damage estimate is $400,000 and there are a total of 13 buses that received damage.

(SALEM) - school bus fire Salem Fire Department received a call for a commercial fire at 998 Hawthorne Ave NE, Salem-Keizer School District Bus Garage at 5:56 AM on Sunday, December 17th.

Captain Robin Chitwood stated, "When we arrived we had multiple busses on fire. We made aggressive attacks on both ends of the line of buses."

A second alarm was dispatched at 6:00 AM bringing more fire apparatus and fire fighters to the scene.

Keizer, Dallas Fire Departments Hosting Annual Breakfast With Santa This Weekend

KIDS! Santa is scheduled to make an appearance at each of the events.

(KEIZER) - Keizer Oregon fire logo The Keizer Volunteer Firefighters Association will hold its annual Breakfast with Santa on Sunday, at the Keizer Fire Station, 661 Chemawa Rd. NE in Keizer.

Hours of the breakfast are 7:00 AM to 11:30 AM.

The Dallas Volunteer Fire Department's annual "Breakfast with Santa" will be held on Saturday, at the fire station, 915 SE Shelton St.

Pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee and juice will be served from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Woman, Man Arrested in Keizer ATM Robbery

29-year-old Jessica Caywood is being held at the Marion County jail on $100,000 bail.

(KEIZER) - Jessica Caywood Keizer police arrested a woman yesterday after she allegedly robbed another woman at an outside ATM at the Keizer MAPS Credit Union Tuesday night.

At about 9:00 AM Wednesday, the victim, 18-year-old Whitney Cathey, while driving through Keizer, spotted the suspect at a bus stop and called police.

She reported that suspect was wearing the same distinctive jacket she was wearing last night, the night of the robbery.
